Expensive but SO WORTH IT. They have the best food in the area. The atmosphere is amazing, very classy. Their menu selection is very diverse. Local food sources. Great staff. Loved everything about it.
EXCELLENT FOOD (Poor Seating). The tailor and the cook prepares EXCELLENT food In my opinion, the best in the greater Utica area. My criticism would be about the seating and your proximity to other guests. I enjoy spending top dollar when the quality food and service is there (and it is). However this is the type of dinner that I consider a real treat that I enjoy treating my wife to on a special occasion. I do not however enjoy spending and sharing those occasions with complete strangers who are so close you can smell them or that you have to coordinate eating because your elbows will bump if lifted at the same time. Having to whisper so your neighbor doesn’t hear your private conversation is not a good dinning experience. A few less tables, possibly small booths and or more space would add greatly to my impression of the overall experience there. If I wanted to eat with other people more or less at the same table I would go to dinner with them. Unfortunately this and this alone seriously detracts from the otherwise exciting and enjoyable dinning experience. I honestly have turned down offers to go there despite my love for the food and service simply because I savor a little bit of intimacy when dinning like this. I will return I do hope they make some changes tho. I will be looking for slower times in the evening or week days.
EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE. I have enjoyed several meals at The Tailor and the Cook. The vast majority of the food is local, fresh and superb quality — the food has not been processed and in the distribution system for weeks or months. The chefs are skilled, talented and creative. The service is always friendly and prompt; but, keep in mind everything is cooked individually to order by the chefs — not reheated by poorly trained short-order cooks — that takes a little extra time! The bartender is a mixologist and each drink is prepared carefully. The only awkwardness is finding a close parking spot — sometimes you’re lucky, sometimes you have to look and/or settle for walking a little ways.
Liberal Flakes. Ok food, but high price. About as yuppie as you can find in Utica. Very slow service. Noisy. Also… You are two doors away from a strip club! Maybe this is a plus….
Good food & service— Bar drinks way too many $’s for what you are served.
Amazing!. This place is amazing and right on par with top New York City restaurants. Every detail is well accounted for here. The lighting is beautiful, the decor is sophisticated, the wait staff are very well trained and above all the food is spot on. I had the lamb loin that was cooked to perfection and delicious. My friend had the fried chicken that was crunchy on the outside and moist and tender inside. For appetizers, I had pan seared scallops and my friend had the pumpkin soup. Both were spectacular. I loved that the soup was served in a small pumpkin with a lid. For dessert, we shared the chocolate tarte that was not too sweet, creamy smooth inside with a nice crumbly crust. I highly recommend this place to anyone that lives in the area or happens to be passing through town. Something tells me this little strip of real estate on the edge of town is about to become very popular.
One of the best places I have ever eaten! The food is so fresh and delicious! Tim the chef makes me want to try new foods, and like them. I never ate beets before my last dinner at The Tailor and the Cook, now I love them! Of course I can not make them taste as good as he did! Always anticipating and planning my next trip!
