Get ‘Em While They’re Hot…. This regional delight had my curiosity peeked. Being a west coast boy, I had never heard of a Michigan. Not to be confused with a Coney, a Michigan is a steamed Red-Hot hot dog topped with Michigan sauce (a meaty, tomato, bean-less chili) and onions. My girlfriend and I took a drive from Vermont, across Lake Champlain, and into the Michigan capital of the world…Plattsburg, NY. After arriving at Gus we ordered up four Michigans to split. Michigans themselves look a little unsightly, but I found them enjoyable, though not spectacular. The meaty sauce was good, the hot dogs hot, and the onions…well, oniony. Basically you are getting just what you are ordering, a hot dog with chili. Nevertheless, I suggest you give em a taste.
