Ate here for the first time the other night. I was very impressed. The staff was great, especially the bartender Dan. The food is mostly farm to table, and all fresh. The portions are good size. They have a nice collection of craft beers, and $4 drafts during happy hour. Leave room for dessert. Get the Elvis crepe. Next time I’m adding bacon to it though.
Not so much. After several top notch dinners since it opened, a repeat dinner this week was a disaster. Two people in the party, among 6-8 other tables that were filled. It took 2.5 hours for burgers & drinks. At least 2 tables of 4 who arrived after we did we served appetizers & dinner before us. Burgers were not cooked properly, staff unable to deal with dietary restrictions ( sesame roll came with the burger, no substitute available) and even the comp cookies were uneven in texture/flavor. maybe expansion to Slingerlands is not such a good idea if the original locale suffers. Not sure I would readily return, it was a big disappointment.
No way! Don’t waste your time!. The experience was very disappointing to say the least. The food was bland and the service was even worse! It took so long to get out food, drinks, and bill that we could have went to the store and cooked it ourselves, twice! Lame. We won’t go back.
Terrible Service, Awful Food. I had such a bad experience here last week. I’ve eaten here several times before, but this last time was so bad that I probably wouldn’t ever go back. The waitress, although polite, was very slow and completely inattentive. I asked for extra napkins when she brought the meal. They never arrived. I can understand that during a busy weekend dinner rush, but this was a Tuesday afternoon lunch. I ordered the soup of the day and the roast chicken savory crepe. My daughter ordered the flat-iron steak frites. The soup was tasty, fresh, and just the right temperature. After that the meal took a nose dive. The steak, formerly $12 when they first opened, but now $17, which my daughter asked for cooked medium, was so overcooked, it was way past well done. She had one bite and wouldn’t eat anything else except a few of the frites. My crepe was cooked nicely, but the roast chicken was disgusting. It was as hard as a rock, too dry to chew even when i added the bechamel sauce to it. We both sat there waiting for the waitress to come check how our meal was. She didn’t come back or even look in our direction for 15 mins. When she finally stopped over she saw that we hadn’t eaten much and did inform the chef about our complaints. We were offered a free dessert, which I said no to, but my 7-year old daughter couldn’t resist asking for a chocolate mousse. So we waited and waited and, you guessed it, waited for them to bring the dessert. It was going on another 10 mins and there was no sign of the dessert. I told my daughter I’d buy her ice cream at Stewarts instead and we got the hell out of there. One last complaint, although the dining area was clean, the ladies room was so dirty that my daughter refused to use it. Garden Bistro seems to be on a downward slide. Prices are going up while quality and courtesy have dropped off the radar.
The menu doesn’t have very many choices but everything I’ve eaten there is fantastic. I love the dessert crepes.
Restaurant week….. They were listed on the restaurant week for colonie and so we decided to try them on our date night. We are soooooo glad that we did. Relaxed atmosphere and great service. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and the bottle of organic wine was fabulous! I recommend this place for great service, food and a fun relaxing atmosphere.
