Sad face for Babycakes. Ok, this place was AWESOME! Food was fresh and tasty… unfortunately I said was. The mocha was missing coffee flavor. I watched the girl make the coffee. She barely put in any coffee into the espresso machine and made hot water. The omelettes use to be the best around, now they are just bland and overpriced. I would not mind the price for what the food once was, but not for diner quality omelettes. Their wholegrain breads where amazing, now just doughy and flavorless. The baguette was no longer crusty or flavorful either. It seems everything has been cheapened except for the prices. No longer my go to place for a good breakfast. Need to find a new one.
Good brunch, good coffee.
This was the most amazing meal I’ve had in a long time. I had cider, the porterhouse pork chop with sweet potato hash and Brussels sprouts, and pumpkin creme brle — fall, from start to finish. My aunt had the butternut bisque, the BC salad, and the avocado cheddar sandwich. *Everything* was fantastic. The service was great, the atmosphere was great, the music was great. Eat here.
We were at Baby Cakes on a FRIDAY night. What a fantastic find!!!! If you want some fuddy duddy place…Don’t come here. The service was prompt and friendly. The recipes were unique and seasoned tastefully (no pun intended). The desserts were fresh and tasted homemade. The coffee was fresh and mug was generous. I will come back, the next time I’m this way.
Adorable, if a tight squeeze. Words of wisdom from a Vassar grad: don’t even try to get in the door between 11 am-1 pm on a Sunday; it’s not worth battling vicious crowds of hungover Vassar kids who have come in groups of 8 people for a Berlin-paced (e.g. 3 hours) brunch. Seating is very limited and you will feel like a sweepstakes winner if you can find a decent table. The fare is mostly sandwiches, wraps, a few breakfast items, and the namesake small cakes. All of it is tasty and almost worth the slightly steep price tags – $8 gets you a fairly filling sandwich with a laughably teeny side salad. Take advantage of the huge vats of creamy balsamic dressing on the tabletops and marvel at the cute art prints (for sale!) adorning the walls. The coffee/latte/hot drink selection is good, too.
Go for the atmoshere . . . be real about the food. I’ve heard lots of great talk about this place, so we had to go. I loved the vibe the moment I stepped in. Nice mix of students, faculty and others of all ages. As for the food, keep your expectations in check. Espresso and frittata were good. Desserts looked great, but the raspberry mousse cake had that stale refrigerator taste and the apple croissant (not really a croissant) had undercooked apple inside. Despite this, we’ll definitely return.
The food is really fresh and the recipes are creative without being strange. The prices are also very reasonable.
