Having left the area and trying other barbecue joints, I realize what a gem Big Ws really is. The dry rub on everything is wonderful, making sauce unnecessary. Big W’s sauce is thin, not to my liking but honestly it’s not missed. The depth of flavor of his dry rub compliments the chicken, ribs and brisket. The pulled pork also is a favorite. The sweet corn pudding is dense, slightly sweet and a nice finish to the meal. The baked cabbage is a wonderful side dish as well. Old standards like beans and cole slaw are reliably good as well.Warren is a hoot, and will remember you by the second visit. He’ll give you a dissertation on the difference between the different types of ribs, barbecue styles, sauces by region and just about anything you can think to ask barbecue-esque. Love Warren and love Big Ws.It’s not fancy, but the enormous portions more than make up for the lack hi end decor. After all, it’s a barbecue joint and worth the trip. Highly recommend.

Although I live about 10 minutes from Big W’s, I discovered this restaurant in Hudson valley magazine. I cannot help but say they have the best brisket i have ever had. Its one of those melt in your mouth foods that keeps you coming back for more. If you have not gone I urge you to go. The staff including Big W (aka Warren) and his wife are very friendly. The inside of the place is nothing special but the food makes up for all that it lacks. The portion sizes are extremely generous. This is also a great family restaurant as well.
Best Ribs & Chicken. I live about 45 minutes south of Big W’s but can still hear it’s siren song from the Westchester border. The only things I’ve had here that were not top notch were the rice and mac & cheese. Everything else and I do mean EVERYTHING ranks as the best BBQ I’ve ever had (I’ve been all over the mid-west and south). I highly recommend the ribs, pulled chicken, brisket and the baked beans. If you feel uncertain about what to get or the menu feels a little overwhelming just ask the person (usually Warren who is the W in Big W’s) taking your order for a sample taste to help your decision along.
Friendly and Flavorful. As soon as we entered the unadorned rib joint we were greeted with a friendly hello, not sure but I think it was Big W himself (AKA Warren Norstein). The aroma as you entered was very alluring. Just by the smell you could tell you were in for some good BarBQue, and we were not disappointed. We got the ribs and they ask you if you wanted regular sauce or spicy sauce so we took both, they come on the side in little plastic containers. The ribs were delicious, meaty and cooked just right but I didn’t really care for the sauces. The regular one was to sweet and the spicy one was to hot. I tried mixing them but still didn’t care for it so I just left the sauce off and that was fine. We got a mac and cheese side which was ok and a fruit compote which I liked, it complimented the pork nicely. They have a refrigerator with a variety of sodas/water and they had my favorite cream soda. It was a long ride to get up there but it was worth it and I would do it again.
