Hat policy. My kind of place. However, the dining room was hot and i was not informed of the Hat policy until we arrived for dinner. This caused a Rift in our family and spoiled dinner. When we called for a reservation we were told the dress code was casual. The Hat policy should be added to the website and telephone message in the future. Other than that it seemed like a great place. I guess the food was good but i only had a bowl of soup.
Wonderful Time. 2 years ago my wife and I were visiting my Uncle Dick in Buffalo. He took us to The Dog Bar and we totally enjoyed our meals and drinks. The owners were very friendly and personable. We can’t wait to return this June for more of the wonderful food and atmosphere and of course the best part, Uncle Dick! Honestly, we had the best Lamb we’ve ever had anywhere. I’ve been around the world a couple times in the military and never had Lamb as good as The Dog Bar’s!
The Dog Bar West Falls NY. Great drinks very generous servings of wine and spirits, I had a Jameson’s on the rocks and it looked like a double, and a glass off wine was filled 3/4 of the way! We had NY strip steak dinner and scallops and shrimp, both meals were cooked to perfection and as requested. If you want a great steak, stop at the Dog Bar. Our friends both had the lamb chops, they looked terrific, I’ll be ordering them the next time we stop there. Well worth the drive to West Falls, you will be glad you went.
Food was okay, lamb was good but small portion with half of it being fat and lobster over cooked for $40, food prices are pretty much 50% higher than they should be. For example $8 for a small slice of cake! Drinks are overpriced too. If you have to eat there just get lamb or beef and water.
Will never return. Unfortunately we went there for our 22nd wedding anniversary, ordered 2 NY Strip steaks medium well with baked potato. We were then told our meal was ready yet they were out of baked potatoes or we could wait 10-20 min for them to get them, we changed to wedges because mashed potato was not an option? . So they bring us 2 steaks – & mention that the chef said they are pretty red which were medium RARE!! I said I cannot eat this (there was blood all over the plate !). They sent it back & my husband ate alone … We decided to get it to go and will never return. Apparently The chef needs more schooling as they acted like this was their first time to cook a steak medium well, I though they are known for steak! I don’t understand why they just didn’t cook the steaks the 20 extra minutes & by then they also would of had the baked potato in stock! Plus the place was not super busy, so there was no excuse but laziness. Waitress was fine, however chef needs help…apparently the chef eats rare steak & thought we should have also???
Get the lamb. I have had both steak and lamb from The Dog Bar. The steak was great, but the lamb is out of this world. You have never had lamb chops like these. Trust me.
Herbivores Beware; Omnivores … you have limited to choose from. The setting is very quaint. The staff is friendly. Unfortunately (for me) the menu is sparse. However, if you love to eat generous portions of meat, this is your Mecca, my friend. The service, although friendly, was slow. If you enjoy a laid back and relaxed atmosphere (which I do), this is your place. They have an impressive wine selection and a full service bar. There is limited seating in the dining room. You should definitely make reservations. Our server was very pleasant and explained the specials. I opted for the shrimp scampi. It wasn’t served over pasta (which is fine). The side of vegetables was mediocre. You do get a nice sized garden salad and a lovely basket of crusty breads (even muffins), before your meal. It should be noted, all baked goods and desserts are provided by the locally owned Butterwood Desserts, in West Falls. My boyfriend had the rib eye and said it was one of the best prepared cuts of meat he had ever eaten. Yes, of course we had dessert, from Butterwood’s. I had the Key Lime cheesecake. It. Was. Awesome. If you order tea, they bring out a wonderful assortment for you to choose from, along with all the accoutrements. Fancy!I’m glad I tried it. I probably won’t return, but urge people to experience Dog Bar for themselves. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews. I just didn’t share in their enthusiasm. I urge everyone to support locally owned and operated businesses, this one included. Perhaps these smaller restaurants, in more remote areas, simply want to cater to local clients. I can appreciate that. You’d think Dog Bar, in close proximity to Kissing Bridge and other ski resorts, would want to attract a variety of business. Whatever the case, it’s a landmark and they’re obviously holding strong. See for yourself.
