I enjoy the chicken tikka massalla. It has pieces of tanjore chicken in a creamy tomatoe sauce and it’s served over rice. If you want to keep it safe and love chicken and tomatoe sauce then choose this. It is always my favorite. It has a sweet but slight kick of spice. The waiters are always friendly when I arrive. I have had the lunch Buffett and it had a great selection of their regular menu items including desserts and breads.
Anything else would have been better. I went here yesterday with two of my friends, and the buffet for lunch stops at 3. We arrived around 1:45, so it should have been still in full swing. The meat dishes were just sauce with very little meat in them, as if they needed to start cooking more. There was a decent crowd, which should have been an indication that they needed to add food. After eating a plate, I went up for seconds and the meat dishes had no meat at all, just soupy sauce. I told the waiter and he told me they were making more. I sat back down and 15 minutes later, got up again to see if the meat was added. There were about three pieces swimming in the sauce. I had salad and then I was done. This is not what I would expect from a buffet. I felt like we would have been better off anywhere else, even fast food like Wendy’s, and I’m not too fussy. It’s the only Indian place in the area, but really you’re better off traveling to Montrose or to Greenburgh or New Rochelle – all great Indian places.
Pretty good. Wish the buffet had more protein selection.
Hits the spot. When you need Indian food, you’ve gotta have it — and here it is! I found this one by accident and gave it a whirl. Set back from the road in a strip mall setting, it doesn’t look like it will be nearly as interesting as it does turn out to be.They put out a masterful-looking standard Indian buffet, but I chose to order from the menu since I like my food spiced hotter than most typical American diners. Waiting for my main meal was not a trial since I was speedily served pappadum with 3 delicious sauces, and my samosa appetizer came out speedily as well. The lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala I chose were both excellent, but I had to ask for a leftovers box since the portions were larger than what most Indian restaurants offer up.The breads are great (I sampled onion kulcha, paratha, and straight-up naan) and the mango lassi just right — not too sweet and not too cold (at other places the lassi is sometimes incorrectly served like a McDonald’s milkshake).I can’t wait to come through here again.
We eat here regularly. The service is always polite and timely . The menu is comprehensive – from South India’s masala dosa to Goa’s Vindaloo and North Indian lamb pasanda, tandoori offerings and all time favorite chicken tikka masala. It is always well prepared and fresh tasting. Don’t forget to try the delish mango lassi and tasty flatbread, onion kulcha.
Love this place – try it again!!!. Several have had negative experiences here, it seems in late summer of 2009. Try it again – I’ve never had a bad meal there. It is sublime in my experience, but we only started going in September/October. The buffets are amazing as well. And I’m another who lived in NYC a long time and ate a good deal of very good Indian food while there. This place is on par with the best establishments in the city. Really.
Some of the Best Indian Cuisine Anywhere!. As someone who’s been familiar with Indian cuisine for many years in NYC, I am a big fan and have had plenty of good and bad, authentic and not. Tanjore is consistently exceptional. I am a regular and it is a top spot I bring my guests.Recently I went back and something changed. The food was not very good and the lights were turned up bright. It was about 7pm so not late or early. Seemed like an ownership change.Went back again the other night and it wasn’t good. I’ve been going for years and never had a bad meal except for these past two times. The food was overcooked- like Indian takeout in NYC- and the dishes seemed Americanized with onions and peppers used as fillers. The atmosphere has also changed since the lights were again turned up bright. I have to take back my recommendation at this point.Anyone know of a good Indian restaurant within 15 miles of Newburgh anymore?
