Oil Vey!. Crab Shack looks like a cozy little neighborhood place. But like many little neighborhood restaurants, there is a reason it hasn’t grown. The atmosphere is ordinary to say the least There is no real decor, no music, no ambient lighting, not even table linens. The menus are place mats that are protected by glass top. When tables are bused they are cleaned with Windex. The scent of Windex during dinner was a distinctive element albeit not a nice one. We ordered garlic bread and baked clams as appetizers. The appetizers were drenched in oil. The garlic bread was soaked with oil. It was actually wet. When we bit into it, the oil ran down our faces. The bread crumbs in the baked clams were also oil soaked. Next, we had our salad. It was ordinary to say the least. We requested the balsamic vinegairette dressing. Instead we had plain balsamic vinegar. We chuckled over the irony. No oil in the salad dressing! The entres (grilled mahi-mahi and bay scallops) were quite good. The presentation left a lot to be desired. The grilled mahi-mahi was served on a plain white plate. The bay scallops were served on Italian bread. We did not ask for desert but the wait staff did not suggest it. Service was efficient but not friendly. The waitress brought food, took empty plates and did not utter a word. Finally if you want water or bread with dinner, you must request it. It will not be brought to you. All things considered, I would not return to this small, lack-luster eatery. It has a water view if you happen to have binoculars with you. With all the wonderful places to eat on Freeport’s Nautical Mile, I’d pass on the Crab Shack and move on down the road!

This is the same as the Woodcleft Crabshack, at least that’s what it says on their menu. It’s a small place you are squeezed into and it can get pretty warm in there, so just be forewarned. They only serve beer and wine, no liquor. It doesn’t have any water view as it’s on the wrong side of the street. Started with the lobster bisque, it did have lobster chunks in it but nothing to write home about. DH had the crab and he said they were good and meaty. I had the jumbo grilled shrimp, which were pretty good. Nicely cooked in a slightly spicy sauce. Like I said the food was decent but I wasn’t crazy about the atmosphere, it was just to hot and stuffy in there and it could use a facelift.
