  A Nice Strip Mall Dominican Restaurant. My spouse and I made a destination trip to Freeport from Kew Gardens in Queens today. Sazn Dominicano has a typical menu with the requisite steam table counter. The restaurant is clean, nicely furbished, and has a large well kept bathroom for men, women, and wheelchair access. My wife’s beverage choice was a bottle of Presidente. I opted for a refreshing limonada. Our appetizers were ceviche de camarones and two empanadas de res. The ceviche was fresh and fine. The empanadas were deep fried a little too long. The oil temperature was right so that they weren’t grease logged, although, the crust was quite dry and very brittle. The ground beef was seasoned Creole style but also a bit too dry for my preferences. My spouse’s main course was rabo guisado. She did not like the creole sauce stating that it was too watery. However, she liked my two chuletas de puerco encebollado that were grilled, as did I. She ate her arroz con gandules. My rice and red beans were a mixed bag. The sauce was flavorful, if a little thin, but there weren’t enough red beans. The rice was al dente to the tune of hard. No, it was not concn. The rice had been undercooked due to lack of enough liquid for proper absorption. The green side salads with sliced tomatos were both very fresh. My spouse chose oil and vinegar for her dressing. I selected the Italian dressing that had that perfect acidity. The pltanos maduros were ripe and tasty. Finish your meal with a square of their extraordinary tres leches cake presentation.
