I would say that if your in the mood for Chinese buffet then you know what is in store for you. I thought that the place was clean and that the food tasted fresh. Lunch was about 9 bucks and I thought it was worth it.
Dirty, all over the whole place.. My wife and I just wanted to have dinner out. I wanted to try a new Italian place in Watertown. Then we both got the idea for Chinese food and wanted the choice of buffet. Off to La Ray we went. Soon as you walk in they see a couple and charge for 2 with drinks. My wife only wanted hot tea. $2.30 for hot water and a tea bag. The food tasted like it had been left over from the afternoon lunch hour. The crab legs were so small, it was almost impossible to get any meat out of them and any time trying was futile. We have not been to the place for quite some time, and will not be back till we hear that the place has been re cleaned and bright and fresh food put out for paying customers. I don’t mind paying a few extra dollars for a better quality food. (up to $15.99 per person) I don’t know if it is just me…..but please be aware of our opinion….!06 Nov, 2009The best one of all in the area!. Will say that the area has a number of choices when it comes to Chinese food. The food here at the Grand Buffet, you will find warm and plate ready is not that bad. I will say that the quality could be a bit better. The food choices that are put out on the steam tables seem pretty much tasty. When it comes to CRAB LEGS, it seems that the legs that are out may have been the rejects when harvested from the Baring Seas. It would be a great pleasure to come in just once and find some meaty crab legs! I would even pay more for the crab legs in my dinner price if they were bigger. The service and staff seem to keep the flow of patrons, and there could be many at times pretty much happy. My daughter likes the soldier’s from drum that frequent the restaurant!
Yuck! My husband was craving Chinese food so we went here. The only thing that tasted some what good was pudding. I tried a little of almost everything. It was very bland and barely warm.the lo mein was greasy. The deserts were poorly kept. You pay before you eat and that’s when you include a tip. The waitress was nice but did not ask If my baby needed a high chair.
Good Chinese food. For a Chinese buffet, Grand Buffet delivered my expectations. I was not expecting the Mongolian style (I may be wrong on the style) grill. The sushi was not that great, but again, it’s a buffet and how long has it really been sitting there? There was an interesting roll that I had to try. It was a typical sushi roll with the rice and seaweed but it had banana in it!!! It was surprisingly good… my compliments to the sushi chef who took a chance and obviously won!
Typical Chinese Buffet. There wasn’t really anything that stood out to me from this buffet. Most of there dishes were standard. The sushi wasn’t that good but the crab legs were standard size for a buffet. They had the typical assortment of meat dishes and dessert bar (jello, pudding, sesame balls, fruit, ice cream, etc.). While they did have salt and pepper shrimp (a family favorite) I found the seasoning to be off. They also had a bar of raw food that you could have someone cook for you. We didn’t try it because we never saw someone in the cooking area but you could ring the bell to call an employee over. This restaurant has a lot of food to offer, the employees are friendly, and there’s a lot of seating. For $10 per person at the buffet, it was an okay deal. If you’re not that hungry or aren’t craving Chinese then I wouldn’t suggest this restaurant. I’d give this restaurant a 3/5 and would go back.
We were asked to pay prior to being seated which was unusual, if you only drink water, check your bill to see if you are charged for a soda. They deducted from our bill after we mentioned it. The interior was clean and decorated like every other Chinese buffet. The buffet offered the usual soups, entrees, and desserts. There were also some (like four) sushi rolls and even some French fries. It looked like some items were created and placed as filler though. Recommend trying small portions of the items as they may not taste good. The spring rolls didn’t taste good, but that is my opinion. Some of the chicken on different entrees was hard from overcooking or from sitting there too long. The Rangoon was good, but was only offered with cream cheese. The General Tso chicken was the best entree I tried. The teriyaki chicken didn’t taste like any I have had before (not good). The sushi wasn’t labeled so I am not sure what roll I tried but it tasted like a California roll with ham salad. Overall, it wasn’t bad, hopefully this is not the best Chinese buffet around here like some reviews suggest. I would give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
