The restaurant is good and not pricy. It’s good to get you out of a rush. The potstickers and orange chicken were rather good, but it wasn’t excellent, it was ok.
Awful service, misleading pricing–SKIP. I thought bait and switch only happened on Craigslist. Apparently it also happens at Sichuan Gourmet.Stopped by for lunch. Ordered the Water Boiled Fish-Braised Fish Filet with Napa & Roasted Chili, one of my favorite dishes and something I’ve been craving lately because of these never-ending snowcalypses. Simple enough, right? The waiter asked me if I wanted it in a bowl or a pot. I got question marks in my head and asked him what the difference was. He said they’re cooked differently. I asked him to explain the cooking methods. He couldn’t explain it in a coherent way. I asked, well, are they the same price? He said, yea yea, it’s the same, they’re just cooked differently. I thought this was a bit fishy (pun intended) since I’d never been asked if I wanted my fish in a bowl or a pot, so I asked him to just make it however they usually make it.Fishy indeed. They ended up charging me for $24 instead of the $18 listed on the menu. I asked why they charged me an incorrect price and they said there are actually TWO water boiled fish dishes. Apparently, there was another item listed on the Sichuan Gourmet section that had a different name and was ever so slightly different (Braised Fish Filet with Napa, Bamboo, Cellophane in Roasted Chili). Guys, seriously? It’s unfortunate, because the food is not bad. I’m just shocked at how terribly they conduct business and how they think they can get away with this.Save yourself some trouble, and skip Sichuan Gourmet.
Wonderful Spare Ribs and more. I ordered the Braised Spare Ribs with Shiitake & Mushrooms because friends raved about it and told me that I had to sit down and just order it. They served up a pretty good portion and I think it was well worth the $15.00. The service was excellent and friendly. It was some pretty good stuff. I asked if I could hold on to the menu and I was amazed at the many wonderful things.
Very Authentic. The food is really authentic and good value, it’s just the question of its quality.
Not quite authentic Szechuan. Maybe a gourmet restaurant but not an authentic Szechuan restaurant, is my impression. One of the typical Szechuan dishes, Mapo Tofu was missing the most important flavor of Szechuan peppercorn, which is very typical with New York Szechuan restaurants.
The food is not fresh. I ordered the Stir Fried Fish Filets w. Mixed Veggie and it was horrible. The dish was either sit in the kitchen for awhile or was defrosted from the freezer. I personally will not return.
