Great evening, great ambiance, great food, great service. What a delightful summer evening we had tonight at Glenmere’s Frog End Tavern. The ambiance, the service, the meal with dear friends —-all perfect! All in our own Orange County! Glenmere is a hidden jewel and a destination we should be so proud of. The restoration of this incredible estate is superb. Roxanne Donnery
Paradise in NY. What a discovery! A friend & I had lunch outside in the cortile on a gorgeous sunny day. We were warmly greeted by friendly staff as soon as we entered the front door. The grounds are to die for and I felt as if I was transported to a beautiful Tuscan villa. Having lunch outside in such a beautiful setting, surrounded by flowers with the soft sound of water flowing from the center fountain & jazz playing in the background made for a perfect setting. Our server Susie was really attentive and made us feel very welcome. The place was full and I was eyeballing all the dishes coming out from the kitchen making it difficult to choose. We ordered the Local Artisanal Cheese platter to start. (Love that they are using produce & cheese from local farms) Our server explained each cheese type and the progression in which to eat them. With a little honey, some greens and olive bread, it was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend it. We also shared the Fried Green Tomatoes which had a tasty sauce on the side and they were light and perfectly cooked. I had the chicken salad which was accompanied by crispy cooked fries seasoned with fresh herbs & served in a little tin bucket (very French & yummy). My friend had the caesar salad with shrimp and was equally impressed. We topped the meal off with 2 outrageously huge desserts – coconut cake and the 7 layer chocolate cake. We debated which one we liked better and the coconut cake won by a hair. Light, not overly sweet and I guarantee even if you are not a coconut lover you will love this cake!I can’t wait to go back and look forward to sitting inside the tavern in the cooler weather with the fireplace going. It’s a magnificent setting with a very homey feeling, great food & service and a reasonable drive from NYC. Not to be missed.
Gorgeous. I had a really lovely birthday lunch in the beautiful courtyard – I had no idea that places like this existed within 90 minutes’ drive from New York! The food was delicious, and the service warm and friendly but not intrusive. We ate there on the a lovely warm day but we snuck into the Tavern part which must be used in the evenings and in winter and it looked very welcoming and cosy. A really special place which I will be going back to whenever I am in NY! Also very conveniently near Woodberry Common.
Where Everybody Knows Your Name. Teensy weensy pub room, warm colors and dark wood, very cozy. Menu could benefit from a few more addtions. Open just about every day of the week for lunch and dinner. Reservations highly recommended due to limited space! Again, pricewise, very fair for amenities and quality.
