Nice Location, Food Mainly Tasteless. Six of us dined there this weekend. The location is lovely and full windows in the back dining area allowed a panoramic view of the frozen, snow-covered Orange Lake. Looks like there are outdoor tables for warmer weather. The wait staff was top-notch – well-informed, polite and helpful. Dcor is functional but old fashioned. Unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations for most of us. We started with quesadilla appetizers, some made without meat for the two non-meat eaters in our party. The quesadillas were hot, crispy and delicious served with awesome salsa and sour cream. Salads arrived but were quite tiny, watery, and the dressings tasteless. The stuffing in the Stuffed Sole was good but mostly bread crumbs and the fish itself was under-seasoned. Rice was cooked nicely but the accompanying veggies were tasteless and decorated with an equally tasteless sauce. Ravioli came swimming in a cream sauce (it reminded me of a bowl of cereal) that had no discernible flavor, not even of cream. I was placing the ravioli and included spinach and mushrooms on the rim of the plate hoping to drain them a bit. The mushrooms were quite tender though. We had Chocolate Pecan Pie (nothing special) and a Brownie Sundae. The brownie was soft and gooey with coconut in it – yummy – but topped unnecessarily with boring Hershey’s syrup. It was served with both vanilla ice cream and whipped cream – a bit of overload in my opinion. I should also mention that as I was the last one eating and with a fork still in my hand the busboy asked if I wanted him to wrap my food. I would return maybe for lunch to enjoy the view but not for the food alone.
Very enjoyable evening. We both had a lovely time. The food was excellent, the view beautiful, the service attentive but not obtrusive. Really, we could not have been more pleased.
