Where’s Ralph?. Gleason’sGleason’s is a long narrow room with a big bar in front. It has comfortable seating and nice lighting. Eclectic music filled the air, blues, rock&roll, zydeco played through the evening. The restaurant is named for Jackie Gleason who had a home in the area, so the search was on for the namesake. Old movie posters line the wall on one side, everything from Double Indemnity to the Attact of the 50 Foot Woman but didn’t notice any Minnesota Fats (from The Hustler) or Cannonball Run posters. Interesting drink names-the Lucy (what I had) small glass but very good, The Rosemary Clooney, It’s a Wonderful Life. What….no Honeymooners, no Ralph Kramdem, no Ed Norton? I’m told there is evidence of Ralph in the men’s room (i took their word for it). The place has a fun vibe but be forewarned it has a small menu (as of February 2013) and unless your in the mood for flatbreads or maybe a couple pasta dishes, you may be out of luck. We knew we were going for flatbreads so we were fine. They also offer some appetizers, we started with meatballs, I think it was a pork/veal/beef mix. They were good but slightly undercooked. Minestra soup was very good with the cooked egg in it. We shared the peperone flatbread with prosciutto and roasted red peppers, very tasty and the Octopus Flatbread, also a winner. Dessert was ok, not worth the calories, chocolate cake made with olive oil. Expresso with a nice pour of Sambuca finished up the evening. Very friendly service.Note: Wednesday night is Trivia Night and if you win they give out gift certificates to the restaurant.ETA: I’m told that there is a Honeymooners Cocktail but it’s seasonal.
Great spot!. Must recommend this solid local establishment. Food is excellent, and prices are very reasonable. The wait staff friendly, and the bar is awesome. Stop by and give it a try, you won’t be disappointed if your looking for craft beer and great personal pizza.
