Orginal owners should save the tea room!!. I went to the tea room this past Monday with two of my friends visting and I had the worst waitress, rude and unfriendly! Its not only the service thats bad, the food was awful. The BLT was nothing like it used to be then acorn squash was tiny, I couldn’t believe they charge $12.00 for the plate it was hard and the meat looks as if it wasnt cook fully. I’ve been going to Kathleens for 9 years and i’m very disappointed on the change. The tea room looks dusty and dingy. Kathleen should buy her buisness back and hire the old friendly staff back. i would never return to this tea room again. I was highly embrassed that i took my friends there for lunch.

Change in ownership brings about a drastic improvement in quality. I am not sure exactly when the new owner took over this quaint tea-room, I am only sure that she has brought great improvements to the place, in my humble recollection. I had partaken of tea many many years ago when the Tea Room had first opened. I found it OK, but subsequent visits were less and less gratifying. It was only when I had heard that there was a change of ownership that I decided to give the place a whirl. I’m glad I gave Kathleen’s another chance. I and my three dining companions (hale and hearty gay boys–all of us, on the ‘robust’ side) were welcomed into the Main Street establishment, as warmly as possible. We were a little worried that perhaps we wouldn’t have enough to eat so we ordered the high tea for four. In actuality, ordering it for two would have been more than enough (though we did polish most of it off!))…Extensive selection of little ‘toots’ -fabulous sandwiches, and scones that we’d kill for….The savouries were delightful and satisfying but the sweets is where good old Kathleen rocks…..I can’t even describe the variety…..The tea itself is a real eye opener……who knew that there was more to life than Liptons? The knowledgable staff will be more than happy to recommend and advise. They also offered us cups so we could try our tablemates’ choices. On a return visit with Mom-in-law in tow, I ventured for the Laspang Souchong (God I hope I spelled this right).. excellent, interesting flavour, may not be to everyone’s liking (Its aroma and taste evoked memories of Midnight Mass at Smokey Mary’s in NYC) . MIL was so taken by her tea that she took home a teapot (all items in restaurant are for sale) and some loose teas.. It is not a manly man’s place, I’ll admit, but if you guys can see beyond that, I promise you, you’ll be well fed (and you don’t have to sit in that cute little window seat, if you don’t want to).

Charming. This is truly a quaint charming place in a unexpected area. It”s like walking into an antique shop with the eclectic furniture and china, the brick walls and tin ceilings really add to the ambiance. Various teapots and teacups adorn each table, they have a wide variety of teas available. They offer lunches that are mostly on the lighter side but when we were there (April) they still had a winter menu as an option. I had a spinach salad with walnuts and gouda cheese and apples with a balsamic driessing, although I prefer the bigger leaf (more crinkley, is that a word?) it was still a very nice salad. DD1 got the Lucia salad with beans and tomatos, and DD2 got the bacon and brie sandwhich on a croissant (which I have had before and it’s delicious) also someone else got the quiche, which was very good. My only pet peeve (it’s my universal pet peeve) is when I’m eating and the waitstaff finds it necessary to spray the next table with some cleaning solution, I realize when you have glass top tables this is the way to clean them but it really does ruin my appetite. I wish there was an alternative to this practice. Parking is not always easy but it’s worth it to find a spot.
