I’m hesitating to write a review to this place because I don’t want it to get mobbed with people. But I think I have to, because it’s that good. I always come with a friend and get a sangria pitcher and the mixed grill for two. You get sausage, steak, and sweetbreads with two sides. I usually get plantains with rice and beans. This is the kind of place where it would make sense to fast all day before coming, because you really do get that much food. The meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the chimichurri it comes with cuts right through the fat. An added bonus: I always leave with leftovers that last days. It’s definitely worth the trip up here if you’re a meat lover. You just don’t find places like this very often.
An Uruguayan Steakhouse & Grill. Like numerous other Argentinean/Uruguayan establishments, this restaurant doubles as a butcher and retail merchandise shop. But the nuances among them give each place their own unique vibe. El Chivito D’Oro presently rates an A from the NYCDOH. It does have a somewhat shopworn appearance upon entry, but the steaks are undeniably of high quality and grilled to your specifications. I always order the Ensalada Rusa to test for flavor and authenticity of the preparation. The chimichurri served @ Chivito D’Oro is very nice. The bread loaf here is also a plus for the dining experience. The red sangria is strong, if not a standout Latin steakhouse version. We were too sated for dessert and after dinner beverages.
Great food! A must go. The skirt steak is delicious an their chimichurry is to die for!
