Tasty Dominican Fare in Jamaica. El Rey Restaurant is a nice find along Hillside Avenue, near Sutphin Boulevard, that serves good Dominican cuisine. Their Chivo Guisado (goat stew) is among the very best that I have ever sampled. This guisado is nicely herbed, and noticeably salty, but to a satisfying comfort food effect. The salsa may just well be addictive. The goat bones were precisely butchered and not shattered, a major plus. Arroz con gandules was a nice accompaniment. The rice may have been a smite dry within itself, but perfect with the guisado. My wife had the sopa de mondongo (tripe soup) and a pastel. No complaints were heard. El Rey has an okay quipe for a starter, an okay flan to end, and a strong espresso. Prices are very reasonable, if you overlook the paella and langosta selections.
Always delicious, I’m a repeat customer.
In the mood for amazing Caribbean food, prodominately Dominican food, this is absolutely amazing food, wonderful service. Also affordable!
Great oxtail. Went there with a friend who raved about their oxtail. Ended up getting the oxtail special which was huge! We were not able to eat it all. The plate came with rice, beans and fried plantains. The oxtail was tender and juicy. The beans were good too. Went there on Thursday night and it was pretty busy. The waitress was great and very friendly. I’d go back again for that oxtail.
Eat in or take out. Good food…quick service
