Turkish Delights in Astoria. Gllolu is a bakery featuring Turkish baked items, confections and coffee that has been under the food scene radar far. Fortunately, it has enough of a following to have survived at it’s Astoria location under the 31st Street elevated train trestles for a couple of years or so.Gllolu’s displays are mesmerizing on the eyes and the palate. Prices are a bit steep but the sweets are worth every hard earned penny. Baklava is the main attraction. Buy the boregi, or borek, which will make you a believer in this savory pastry. They carry multiple fillings. The spinach boregi is most popular. Soups, sandwiches, and middle eastern spreads such as hummus are for sale. This location has two small standup counters at the front of the store to consume your coffee and comestibles on premises.
