How to become deaf and starve at the same time. Mamajuana seemed like a promising restaurant when we spotted it from afar. As soon as we stepped in, we should have left because the music was non-stop deafening. They lowered it a little when requested, but put it back up later. The waiter did not take our order until 45 minutes later and then the food came half an hour after that…while the music was still beyond normal human limits. It was Saturday and only the brunch menu was served. It was a prix fixe with only a few variety of Dominican foods. While the food was tasty, it wasn’t worth the horrible volume and slow service. The wait staff look like they’re not invested at all in serving the customers. No wonder they included a 15% tip in the bill because they would deserved a lot less.

Horrible! Horrible!. Worst place ever to celebrate! DO YOURSELF AND YOUR WALLET A FAVOR and DON’T GO THERE! MamaJuana Cafe sucks A$$! Malditos desgraciados! LOL! After a horrible night on October 19, 2013 with the wait staff and manager, who doesn’t know what the HELL she’s doing, my girls and I ended up in Don Coqui! No drama. Big Fun, Good Times!

Nuevo Dominican Fare @ Mamajuana Caf in Woodside. Mamajuana Caf of Inwood is in the midst of a rapid expansion to open more sites with the brand. This Woodside location is the most recent addition. Ricardo Cardona is the executive chef for Mamajuana Caf. The Woodside menu has his unmistakable stamp with Caribbean favorites presented in a Nuevo Latino style. Puerquito, a humongous roasted pork shank that is a Chef Cardona signature plate, is offered as a special entree as of this writing. I was surprised that it is not a permanent menu selection. Five large grilled shrimp were perfectly done, opaque, juicy, and easily extracted from the shell in it’s entirety with a single tug with the teeth while gripping the tail. My spouse ordered skirt steak that was cooked beyond the requested medium temperature, but tasty and tender notwithstanding. The espresso machine was nonoperational during our dinner visit. A slice of tres leches cake was good, although dearly priced at nine dollars. Full bar is available. Sangria, by the pitcher or the glass, and the signature Mamajuana Caf concoctions printed on the card in the plastic table stand are all worthy libations.
