Solid Portuguese Fare in Queens Village. Mateus is a restaurant and bar that features some classic Portuguese comestibles, wines and cocktails. Check their Facebook timeline for the daily specials. For instance, today they offered pork and clams and chicken gizzards with pasta as main courses. My brother and I both decided on the pork and clams. I made a takeout order on the chicken gizzards for my spouse. We began with a complimentary basket of mixed individual bread rolls. My cocktail choice was a Caipiro while my brother selected his usual Margherita on the rocks. For starters, my sibling and I shared the picadinho misto which consists of cubes of beef, chicken, pork and Portuguese chourio slices with onions and peppers. This is addictive. We would have finished a salad bowl full of the picadinho misto if it was presented. A green salad with tomato wedges and shredded carrots is presented prior to the main entre with your choice of dressing. The pork and clams were delicious with tender potato cubes interlaced throughout the plate. For dessert, my brother devoured the daily special of red velvet cake. His beverage choice was 12 ounces of Classic Coca Cola. I finished with a cortadito with a touch of Sambuca. That is dessert enough.
