MOFONGO sucked. This mofongo sucked, I thought Dominicans knew how to make Mofongo, believe me they do not from what I see at Mela’s cafe. This task belongs only to the Puerto Ricans it seems. Nuff said, this Mofongo was ordered, I had two bites of it and it then was thrown in the trash. This Mofongo was super hard and then it was dry, some nasty tasting butter grease about 1 teaspoons worth was on the bottom of the Mofongo and it was nasty. I wanted to like this dish but it just did not give me a chance to like it. I guess I will be going to Spanish Harlem to get my tasty Mofongo. This hard, no taste Mofongo ran me $10.00 and change, what a rip off. Do not order Mofongo from Mela’s Caf and if you did don’t say I did not warn you.
Great spot!!. I visited this restaurant during the day for lunch and they were very welcoming. The manager was very helpful and kind. The food was great and it was a nice spot to dine in. Would definitely recommend to a friend!!
Terrible food. Hopesproblm seems to lie with the cook, wh can not prepare After visiting the resterant for the past 2 weeks, I was impressed with the design , but the food was terrible. On my first visit I ordered a Hamburger formed as a ball in your hand.It came as a small ball, and it was burned on the outside and hard as a rock inside.On my second I ordered pork chops,ulyder the lunchlon special. What came was a small squaret of meat, looking nothing like a pork chop. It was complyburned on the outside, and raw on the inside. Thexonly saving grace was the white rice and beans that came with the meal.(Hard to distroy that).I would appea to me that the problem lies with the cook,who is not able to prepare American dishes.
Had dinner their and it was amazing, the chef sauces are delicious, I could have it by itself. The environment is beautiful cafe like and I was able to charge my phone with their USB plugin. My only problem was that their was no wine. Hopefully I can dine again when they get their license.

Melas. Melas cafe is a new restaurant n is good maybe u should try again Cuz they are new n they food is getting good don’t judge try it again n ask to meet the cooker they are cood good 🙂 in have no complaints they are real nice n the hamburger are good now maybe was not Ur day
Yummy food :). Descent restaurant. They have a lot of potential, but lack good advertising signs, and no good deals to drag people in. I love the food it’s like having a real home cooked meal and the people make you feel at home, but it is just way too pricey especially for the area it is in. People are very kind and service is great, although waiters seem to be hard to find when you need them. Still I suggest to give it a chance I truly loved the restaurant and will be back soon, just waiting for them to get alcohol and take out menus.
