Over a dozen wing sauces to choose from.. Having a chef friend tell me that this was a place he enjoyed stopping at was all I needed to put it on my list for a future visit. A crowded parking lot and a full bar and dining area at 6 pm on a Tuesday evening gave me good vibes of what was to come. Maybe the 4 -6 happy hour helps to draw in a crowd, but a nice mix of 12 standard and rotating craft drafts, very friendly service, accommodating staff, and good value certainly doesn’t hurt. After meeting up with a couple of friends, we started with some craft beer. Mine was the Beaver Tail Brown Ale (5.6 abv) from the Adirondack Brewery in Lake George. It had only a mild amount of flavor but was a good choice to go with the Spicy Jack Daniels sauced wings ($7.50/10). The wings were meaty, juicy, full of flavor and not over sauced. There was just enough spice to the sauce to enjoy it and allow the JD flavor to come through. The only downside was a rather thin bleu cheese dressing for the carrots and celery.Since they smoke their own meat I decided to try their Piled High Pork ($8.25) – hand-pulled pork simmered in a North Carolina sauce and served with coleslaw and horseradish sauce on a warm, soft roll. While I don’t recall tasting the flavor of horseradish, the pork was tender, moist and flavorful. However, I still would have enjoyed a noticeably more smoky flavor. Note: they normally serve their sandwiches with their fresh fried potato chips, but since I was interested in substituting their Potato Pancakes, I opted to pay an additional $1.75. And boy was I glad I made that choice. The potato pancakes were about the size of silver dollars and there had to be at least a couple dozen of them. They were not the least bit greasy and had nice little chunks of potato inside. The only thing that would have made them better would have been some apple sauce or apple butter.Because each of us opted to substitute a side for the fresh potato chips, our server offered to bring us a separate bowl of chips that she said the chef had just made. They were delicious; hot, crisp and not greasy. All of this went well with a Goose Island draft of Mild Winter (5.6 abv).Since everything up to this point was quite enjoyable, there was no reason to not look at the dessert menu. Another good decision on my part. I tried a Golden, Lemon Mascarpone and Raspberry Layer Cake. It was out of this world! I also had a taste of a fellow diner’s Amaretto Bread Pudding. That was equally delicious, possibly one of the best bread puddings I’ve had.I’ve already mentioned the service and friendliness of the staff, but it is worth mentioning again. They make you feel welcomed and give you the desire to return.
Been there a few times and absolutely horrible service no matter how many people are there. if you don’t mind your waitress socializing while you spend 60 min waiting for a so so lunch to come out, then enjoy! Also, don’t go thirsty since the first drink you will get will probably be your last.
Nice pub fare. Smoked meats awesome. Locals love it…a good sign.
Owner passed away. Stopped this past Thursday It was pretty busy but we were seated then ignored for 25 minutes. Kids working, they don’t know any better. Won’t be back
The best pub food. Nice people and it’s clean what more could you want
This has been a regular stop of ours since it opened. I’ve been happy with the barbeque and the beer selections. I tried the brisket for the first time tonight, something more akin to Texas lean, maybe a little on the dry side. There wasn’t enough char for my taste, but I tend to err on the crunchy side. If you are a fan of smoke, give the wings a try. They have a smoky tinge. The potatoes and slaw that came with the brisket were great. Creamy potatoes with some skin involved and crispy slaw, properly seasoned. I’ve usually had the pulled pork, which I really enjoy because of the vinegar flavorings. Well worth the trip if you are a barbeque fan.
Good astmophere. Fun place with live music.
