Hamburger Assassination.. First time going to Dogtown today. I ordered a Mushroom Swiss hamburger. The sandwich came with plenty of freshly cooked onions and mushrooms piled high. On some really nice bread. This is where it all goes down hill. The hamburger tasted like it was a frozen patty that had been microwaved. The texture of the hamburger is that of a leather belt. For a restaurant that specializes in hot dogs and hamburgers they really dropped the ball on this. There isn’t enough toppings in the world to keep you from the horror that is laying in wait between those buns. If you want I can come down there and show you how to make a proper hamburger.
Portobello Mushroom Sub is Outstanding!. I’m a Rochester native, and frequent Monroe Ave for shopping. Although Dogtown is known for it’s signature meal, hot dogs, it also offers a vegetarian gem. The grilled portobello mushroom sub is H-U-G-E! Steak type cap, with grilled onions, peppers and melted provolone cheese. The bread is always fresh and soft, cut on an angle for easy pick up and looks quite stylish. Staff is young, but attentive and accommodating. They are always busy and the small eating area space. Even so, it’s possible to find a seat by the window on a stool, or in the main area. Pictures of various canines adorn the walls. Very entertaining and welcoming atmosphere.
Good. Family stopped by Dogtown for a snack after visiting the museum of play. It was good food, a really good dog! It was a fairly clean place too. More of a young peoples hangout than a family place. Young people showing off how cool they are by swearing as much as they could.
One of the best!. Dogtown is one of a kind! I was never into hotdogs but they have so many crazy varieties it keeps me coming back to eat them. Their sandwiches are on grill toasted french bread which is extra delicious and they have some good homemade soups. Even if there is a line out the door, which happens at peak service times, seating opens up fast and the food comes out fast. They have Saranac sodas, really good cookies and their garbage plates are amazing because they have great mac salad and the best hot sauce recipe. Their prices are very reasonable and their kitchen looks clean. They have so many choices for vegetarians it is easy for a group of people to find something they all like. Anyone who doesn’t like Dogtown is out of their mind!
