Where is the real indian food?. I’m the one who posted that last review below. I wanted to say that, while this place gets voted best indian food in rochester a lot, and a lot of people like it, I think its due to sheer ignorance. I think that people who have gone there do so because it is the oldest indian food restaurant in rochester, and because they have never had any other indian food before. If you want real indian food I would suggest going to new havelli cuisine. I have been to every indian restaurant in rochester and it is the only place to get real indian food. And the owner and cook and waiters are very nice, if you ever have a problem with the food they will make you a new dish. The owner has been there everyt ime I have been there and always says hi. I have always been impressed when I go there. Even their buffet is remarkably impressive with about double the dishes of india house.23 Feb, 2013Not only is it not real indian food, its hardly food!. This indian food is barely indian. It is americanized and super bland. The bread is like rubber because they pre-prepare it and keep it under a heat lamp. And the food is just such a pathetic shameful thing to call indian cuisine. I had been there for lunch buffet twice and had to dress everything up with huge amounts of condiments and sauces, but just couldnt go back. The main flavors I was able to finally taste were spiceyness, but the waiter wouldnt bring me more water…after serving me the first glass of water he disappeared for the rest of the time I was there. So I went there for dinner once and was served food that was even more flavorless than at lunch. I told the waiter that my food was not indian, and had little flavor, and asked if they could make me something authentic. He said no, and asked if I wanted my food more spicey, adn I said no, I wanted it to have flavor and to go talk to the cook. He came back and said that there was nothing they could do for me and that I couldnt send the food back I had ordered. I actually have become acquainted with the owner through dealing with the store and seeing him at a local temple. And I said well then either call the owner or the police but dont tell me that I cant send bad food back at a restaurant. It was the most ridiculous restaurant experience I have ever had in my life. I only went there because I lived int eh neighborhood at the time but wouldnt go there again if I was starving.

Our go to dinner place when in Rochester. We always visit this location when we are visiting Rochester. The food is always delicious and served quickly.

Overpriced, underspiced. I love Indian food, but the two times I’ve tried India House I’ve been disappointed. The prices are significantly higher than other Indian restaurants in the area, and the dishes are a lot less flavorful. It’s not the worst place to go, but there are much better options.

Never fails to please. Whenever we have guests visit from out-of-town, we take them to India House. Everyone raves about the food. The service is always friendly and pretty fast, depending on how busy it is, of course. The buffet at lunch is a great way to sample different dishes. We love everything. You must finish the meal with their yummy rice pudding and sweet and spicy tea.

India House Deals. Not sure what to eat? Try the lunch buffet or check online for a coupon on their website. No matter what, I’ve never had anything I didn’t love. Best Indian food in Rochester, hands down.
