Least innovative coffeehouse…ever. If one place manages to price gouge, it’s Java’s. The location allows it to dominate the Gibbs St. (Eastman) area. Its coffee is as weak as it’s prices are high. Nothing new on the menu—after 5 years. And, the worst (I mean the Worst) set up. It has a nice decor—great, in fact. But the counter and front door are just so packed. I’m surprised the fire marshal would allow such conditions—it’s just so jam-packed when people are standing in line, waiting for an order, exiting, entering, throwing away trash, adding sugar/milk, getting napkins…all in the same 10’x5′ rectangle. I wish they’d improve this aspect of the service model!

Eh.. The location is perfect and the owner is great. His staff however are usually less than desirable. I have always had rude service and the pastries are mediocre. I have a huge problem with the baristas steaming milk in styrofoam which is pretty bad chemically and does not help the taste of the milk. Their espresso is also poorly made or it is the machine, either way it comes out badly. There are better cafes in Rochester and this one happens to have an excellent spot with a great decorator.

After all the hype between my friends, I finally made it here for a visit and wasn’t disappointed. The tea selection is marvelous, my friend enjoyed his cappuccino thoroughly and we could’ve ordered all the desserts. I just wish I lived closer so I could visit more often!! loquaciousnicole.blogspot.com

Funky, funky place.. I just love the energy of the Eastman School of Music located next door. The cookies … go ahead and get several!
