You have to stop here if you’re in Rochester. Staff was awesome, one of the cooks even came out to our table and chatted with us for a bit! We got the fish and chips and shepherds pie, both were awesome!! Can’t comment on the drinks as we didn’t get any beer. Highly recommend!!!
I would rather eat from a toilet. The service sucks, but it is a european bar — so that is OK. The beer list is extensive which is great! The food tastes like eating week old leftovers that were heated with toilet water, that is to say it is unappealing. If you like Brittish food, then you aren’t looking to be amazed — eat here. Location is great, environment is decent.
Great Bar, decent bar food, horrible service. I absolutely love this bar! I’ve been going here for many years and I love the atmosphere and beer selection. It’s a great place to meet friends and make new ones. Despite this, I must complain about the service. It couldn’t be any slower. I have waited over an hour for dinner, even when it’s not busy. It even takes an incredible amount of time just for the server to get you beers from the bar. Pro tip: get your own beers from the bar and don’t order food unless you’re not very hungry at first and are willing to wait a very long time. That being said, I love the Old Toad and will continue to go.
One of my favorite places in the city. Great food and fun service. Trivia night and the other regular events are always a good time. Even though they are located in the heart of the jackass-bar district their staff has zero tolerance for young drunks and trouble makers. The menu is fantastic, and the specials are always great. I have never had a bad meal there.
Come for the brews. This is a great place for quality brews and scotches. However, don’t come expecting you’ll get great food or service. However, it is a great hang if you come with friends. We usually get our drinks at the bar and find a seat so we don’t have to rely on the waitstaff.
Europe?. I love the beer selection at old toad. I *usually* like the food as well. However, there are times when the Toad Plate has come out with burned scotch eggs… Other complaints include overpricing and EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE. This is not England – you can’t ignore your customers here. I have gone for 45 minutes without tableservice – when you finally give up and got to the bar and get a drink yourself, they get upset with you… Unbelievable.
