A cut above. Kumo is really a cut above the average sushi / japanese restaurant in the area. Quality of fish was super, the restaurant was full (during a Friday late lunch), and there was a steady flow of take-out orders. Wait Staff was attentive and friendly, and our orders came out very fast. We were given a complimentary plate of edamame which was delicious, then came our miso soup and salad. The only negative was that both the soup and salad were served at the same time. I am used to my soup being served, then cleared, before my salad arrives. Salad was the standard carrot/miso/dressing over mixed greens with tomato and cucumber. All fresh and delicious. For our lunch we had the scallops, served over a bed of sauted onions and peppers, and with a rice bowl. Rice was well cooked too. Scallops were delicious, properly seared and seasoned. I had the sashimi lunch, which consisted of 4 slices each of yellowtail, tuna, white tuna, and salmon. All delicious, and the white tuna was the standout. Some of the best I’ve tasted anywhere. The bento box included shrimp shumai (3), vegetable temporah, 3 pieces california roll, and rice. Excellent value at $9 and $12 respectively. The atmosphere is very hip, with a full length bar whose surface is embedded pennies. Lighting was very chic as well, and with the shiny ceiling decoration was very upscale. Certainly a notch above the other local choices.
