In the Schenectady area on business so best part of Firestone 151 was being able to walk here from my hotel. Wings were tasty but not very big so even with the order not filling. Grilled chicken sandwich, a really nice size piece, went w/ Provolone and lettuce. Very tender. The outside area, in the right time of year, must be great place to relax, eat, and watch sports.
In some ways, its disappointing that it took us as long as it did to try Firestone 151. In all honesty, I really did not expect it to be a place where I would enjoy eating. Well, Im ready to eat more than my words.Their 10 draft beers offer a broad selection. The night we stopped in it ranged from a Miller Lite to two offerings each from Bells and Founders, a couple of wheat beers, several IPAs and a Saranac Strawberry Tart. They also have a good assortment of bottled and canned beers covering domestic, import, craft and specialty. We started with pints of Bells Oberon Seasonal Wheat Ale and Dogfish Head Flesh and Blood IPA ($5 each). The Bells was very mild in its flavors. The Dogfish was not overly hoppy so I enjoyed it.Our first surprise was that the Onion Rings ($6) appeared to have been made in-house. They were nice thick large slices with a good amount of tasty breading. They were not greasy and were served with a side of non-descript bleu cheese sauce for dipping. My wife ordered a 14 round Pizza ($12) with sausage and fresh mushrooms ($1 extra, each). The dough had good flavor, was reasonably browned on the bottom and folded nicely to hold the ample toppings while eating. The sausage was especially flavorful. We wondered if they got it from the nearby Garafalos meat market.I ordered a Burger ($9) with Swiss cheese, bacon and roasted red peppers ($1 extra, each). It was served a lovely medium-rare as requested. The side of fries were the standard shoestring style and rather salty. While the Angus beef was perfectly cooked, it did lack a nice beefy or grilled flavor. The bacon was nicely crisped and the peppers were flavorful. While there is no additional charge for lettuce, tomato or onion, since I neglected to specify them to our server, they were not provided with my burger. There are a number of TV screens around the establishment so it could easily qualify as a sports bar. It was about two-thirds filled when we arrived near 8 pm on a Saturday and already quite noisy. As we were about to leave a live band had finished setting up and the noise level increased dramatically. There is nothing in this all-metal building to absorb the sounds. Are bar server was friendly and efficient.
The service and the food was terrible. We ordered hamburger, wings and 2 drinks. It took 45 minutes to get a server in a place that wasn’t that busy. The burger was undercooked and the bun had way too much butter. The wings were grossly undercooked and the fries tasted like leftover stale McDonalds fries after you microwave them. One of the drinks was OK but the other one was so watered down, we asked to have it re-made, which they did but returned with a super strong version that tasted like nothing more than Burbon and water. We politely and even embarrassingly ask if they could try again. They did and not only was that drink poorly made when we got the bill they charged us full price for each of do-overs. We called the manager over to explain the error but he refused to make an adjustment citing the restaurants policy of denying customers credits or refunds for unacceptable food or drink. He offered to make another drink but ignored the fact that they tried 3 times already and failed and our concern was they were charging us for their failure. We never complained about the food and we just wanted to leave but he insisted on forcing us to accept another bad drink, which we decline. We paid and left…NEVER to return again and in our opinion we don’t think this is a good place to eat or experience.
