Mike’s is another in the list of Schenectady institutions. Also, my personal favorite in the capital region hotdog wars by a long shot. The meat sauce is best around. The fries are house cut and properly twice fried and the sausage burgers w onions & peppers help mix up the options. Also the most underrated breakfast in town. I would rate it higher if it were a touch cleaner, but the traffic is heavy so they may have to wait for breaks in the action. A good value nonetheless.
The place is ‘basic’ and good at it.. During the decade and a half I lived in Boston, I made it a point to return to Schenectady at least once a year to have dogs ‘all the way’ and fries at Mike’s. His dog-sauce is the best (and he won’t give me the recipe), and he double fries his own French fries. The place is strictly no-frills, and the portions are ample for the price.
