The place is in an a old Victorian home and it is fitting. As soon as you walk in the owner makes you feel like he is welcoming you into his home. The atmosphere was warm. There was tasteful Persian art throughout the restaurant. The look of the restataunt complemented the AMAZING food. I was simply blown away by the delicious meal that I had. Anytime I come back to Schnecatady I will be eating at this amazing place.
Weve passed by this restaurant so many times over the years, first at their prior location and now at their new home, and always been curious about what Persian food was like. It was finally time to bite the kabob and find out. Which means, once we looked at the menu we were enticed to try something other than a typical middle eastern kabob.On the appetizer menu, Kookoo Sabzi ($6) sounded more interesting than coo coo when described as vegetables and eggs ground and fried. However, to prepare ourselves, my wife ordered a glass of white wine ($6) and I got a bottle of New Castle Brown Ale ($5). I thought the Kookoo looked strange as it was served because it was three rectangular shaped patties that were dark brown in color and looked more like brownies on the plate with some pickled vegetables. Cutting into one of the soft patties with my fork revealed a blend of finally chopped (ground?), green colored vegetables (parsley?, chives?, dill?, cilantro?) held together with whipped eggs. There was likely another flavor, maybe turmeric, blended in there also. Trust me, it was really quite good.My wife had decided to try the Sabzi Soup ($4) for her appetizer. This was a blend of green peas, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, carrots, cilantro, and parsley. As a vegetable soup it was quite delicious. With our apps we were also served Sangak flatbread which had an interesting looking texture as I believe it was cooked on hot pebbles. It was thinner than Indian naan but still soft and pliable in texture and great both by itself or dipped in my wifes soup.For her entre my wife had decided upon the Khoresh Fesenjan ($22), one of the stews on the menu. This one was made with ground walnuts, pomegranate paste, and small meatballs. It was served with a side of basmati rice topped with some saffron colored rice. The menu had explained that the stew should be gradually added to the rice as you eat. The mix of all those flavors was wonderful.My choice was the Baghali Polo ($21), a mixture of basmati rice, fresh dill and fava beans. The menu said that this dish could be served with or without lamb shank. Since I am a fan of lamb there was no doubt that Id order the dish with the shank. I am curious, however, if I hadnt opted for the shank would there simply have been a lot more of the rice and beans mixture? In any event, even if you dont care for lamb, you should try this dish with the shank. In a separate dish, a large shank sat in a pool of au jus with an abundant amount of truly tender meat attached. And I do mean fall-off-the-bone tender. I believe the chef told us after dinner that the shanks are roasted slowly for over 5 hours. The lamb was so tender, mild and deliciously flavored that even my wife liked it and said if she were blindfolded she would not have guessed that she was eating lamb. While it was delicious all by itself, I still mixed the lamb with the rice, dill and beans for an excellent blend of flavors and textures.There is no doubt that we will be returning for another bite off their menu. There are a number of other items that we would like to try. Service was professional, friendly and prompt.

Stopped in for lunch and seems it would be perfectly fine for dinner as well. Had the lamb, bread and yogurt, all of which were very good. The chef was also very personable and talkative and made sure we were enjoying our meal. Definitely worth the stop.
