Some people will walk over to Villa Italia from Proctors Theater during an intermission of a show they are attending. I will never do that! Why? Because I would buy so many different pastries that everyone in line behind me would be late for the second half start of the show.Fortunately, today I was not attending a performance at Proctors and was walking past Villa Italia after eating at nearby Slidin Dirty. Oh, it is so difficult making a decision on what I want to try. Its good that Im not on an empty stomach.Of course I MUST have a sfogliatella, and of course a cannoli. Theres something that looks like a huge sfogliatella filled with custard, so I better get one of those. And whats that? A rugelach? OK, Im all set now until we get home. The sfogliatella has the perfect texture crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. But I like them to have more almond flavor inside than this one has. The huge sfogliatella-like pastry absolutely oozes a delicious light creamy vanilla custard with each bite and I have to be careful it doesnt drop on my cannoli.Speaking of cannoli, even though these are prefilled, the shell is still quite crispy. The filling is a bit more creamy than Im accustomed to, but the flavor is still very good. The rugelach might be the best Ive had in the capital district. They were fresh and soft with a good cinnamon flavor. However, the ones that I was first introduced to in NYC also had fillings of raspberry or apricot, and those were outstanding. Hmmm, I seem to recall that Mother Myricks in Manchester, VT has different flavored fillings. ROAD TRIP!

TERRIBLE service. Consistently RUDE staff.. I love the food, pastries and soup here. I work nearby and so I visit daily. HOWEVER. The staff is consistently rude, curt and unwilling to offer service pleasantly. I leave the premise daily in a bad mood because of the terrible service the employees there offer. The storefront and the food is definitely worth the visit, but I suggest for management to seriously consider changing their hiring process or training process because the service is terrible on a daily basis.

Best Pastries in the Albany area. I love their pastries! When I was in school in Troy we would come here (30 mins) often during weekends for great coffee and pastries/desserts. They would do really well if they open one in the wolf road area.

Exceptional Cakes. For a number of years, my family has purchased cakes from Villa Italia and have never been disappointed. Whether they are for a wedding or a birthday or just a special dessert. The family favorites are Italian Rum, American Strawberry and the Black Forest. The pastries are good as well. My nephews favorite is the little chocolate mouse.
