I have always (except once for lunch; maybe different chef) had an AMAZING experience at Zen. They’re food is great, the atmosphere is fun and light, and their drinks are stiff and decently priced. I love their Pad Thai (not too saucy, not too spicy… everything is just right) and their sushi assortments are delicious. Zen is definitely a go-to choice for me whenever we’re headed to downtown Schenectady!

As large as the building and sign look from the outside, I was expecting the inside to be more spacious. Instead, the large rectangular bar takes up about a third of the interior and the remainder of the space is filled with closely spaced tables giving the sensation of being over crowded when fully occupied before a show at Proctors Theater across the street. You guessed it, we were on our way to Proctors and had a reservation for an hour and three quarters before curtain time. Our seating and service were prompt and we were finished with our drinks, an appetizer and two entres with thirty minutes to spare.Since the full name of the restaurant includes the work mojito it only seemed appropriate for me to order one. From their list of twelve choices I decided upon the Downtown Mojito ($8/glass; $18/pitcher) made with Finlandia Grapefruit, mint, lime, sugar, and topped with champagne. It was tasty with a little sourness from the grapefruit flavor and went down real easy. I didnt feel any noticeable impact from the alcohol after only one drink. My wife decided on a White Cosmo ($10). Dont ask me whats in it, I have no idea. But she liked it and it look really nice. I didnt see any noticeable impact of only one drink upon her either. For an appetizer, we shared the Salt and Pepper Squid ($7). There were two surprises from this dish. One was that the squid body was not cut in rings. I liked that! Instead, there were nice good sized chunks of the body breaded and fried. The only pieces that were overcooked were the few smallest pieces. The rest were perfectly cooked. The second surprise was that the bed of finely chopped red and green peppers beneath the squid was where most of the salt was coming from. And boy, did a lot come from there. My wife ordered an Assemblyman Roll ($13) as an entre. It consisted of spicy tuna topped with avocado, crunch, massago, and scallion. It was colorful, tasty, and the eight pieces were sufficiently filling. I opted to try the Yellow Coconut Curry ($13) which came with a choice of salad/miso, and white/brown rice. I was very pleased with the miso. It was not watery, had lots of flavor and a reasonable amount of tofu cubes, and scallion rings. The curry dish had larger than expected cuts of vegetable but they were cooked just enough to still be firm without being raw or turned into mush. I had added chicken to the curry and was also surprised that the large pieces of thinly sliced breast were actually moist. The only down side of this dish for me was how the curry seemed to have been overly thickened with something reminding me of the consistency of egg drop soup. The brown rice was flavorful and complemented the curry as I gradually added it to the dish.Kudos to our server and the kitchen. Not only did we receive our food in a timely manner on an evening when the restaurant was fully occupied, but the coordination of the staff at the sushi bar with the kitchen also allowed our server to bring my wifes sushi roll at the same time as my curry entre while it was still very hot.

I recently just moved to Schenectady , try to find a good place to eat is very hard. But I found Zen , I can’t said enough good things about this restaurant .They have the best food , a lot of to worth trying . I had the Zen crispy duck it was so good , the duck was not grease at all and the flavor just right . My boyfriend had the Thai red coconut shrimp and he absolutely love it. The Thai food is a little different from the regular Thai restaurant . Zen Thai curry actually you can taste the curry not just the coconut milk like any other place. My boyfriend love it so much.after the entree we had a desert which is fried cheese cake and a fried ice cream , when my server brought it out I was shock the presentation just so amazing . We love the server so much , she gave us a unforgettable experience .Her service is a 5 star plus. Thank you, Tracy . We’ll be back!!!!

Amazing. We stayed at the hotel across the street and they had recommended a bbq place. We were walking there and saw Zen and decided to eat there instead. It was amazing. I have craved it ever since. I had Tilapia and it melted in my mouth. Delicious.
