A port in a storm. On a warm spring day, we sat outdoors at the Southampton Sant Ambroeus. Though we live only blocks from the UES incarnation, we thought, why not? Service was desultory and relaxed, though not annoyingly so, and we were in no hurry, it was a lovely day. The menu seems the same as the UES, which is extraordinary in a resort town. Clearly, different things are wanted. There were quite a lot of heavy pasta dishes for example which clearly weren’t appropriate either to season or location.Everything we had was delicious and beautifully done, though you would never go here for large portions! The prices too are very significant, even for the UES or Southampton. On the other hand, there are few opportunities to lunch out of doors in Southampton before the hordes arrive, and a pleasant lunch it was.
You better have full wallet to eat here. It is not for mid class, only for the chosen ones.
Don’t miss dessert. To be truthful, I have only been here for dessert…I enjoyed biscotti and gelato!
A+ Desserts. Awesome for after dinner, great sorbets and desserts!
