Lively Bar, Lively Restaurant. Casa Del Campo is tucked in the middle of a strip mall facing Deer Park Avenue. We were a party of five on Sunday afternoon, May 3rd to celebrate the birthday of my spouse’s cousin. The restaurant was busy when we arrived, packed midway through our meal and at our departure. The bar is at the front of the store. The restaurant begins at the back. My wife ordered the Dominican sample platter (4ppl size) for the table. It was just OK, not especially Dominican and not impressive. Otherwise, the dishes are typical Dominican favorites with no nuevo caribeo creations. I chose pernil asado with sancocho and maduro as my side dish. The sancocho was very tasty with chicken and beef chunks. The pernil was on the dry side plus not quite as seasoned as I like it but , hell, it was still pernil. The ripe plantains were sweet and gooey. I liked the Campo Mojito that was my cocktail choice. My spouse went with her standard in Dominican restaurants, the chicharrn de pollo with a soup plus white rice and red beans as her side dish. She did not like her selection. Dessert was flan for her. I favored biscocho de tres lechs. Both were delicious choices.
Amazing!. I stopped by one evening to pick up the Tostones Rellenos with steak. As I waited for the take-out, I had a margarita at the bar, prepared by Tony. Probably one of the best margaritas I can remember having. Just tequila, triple sec and fresh lime juice. Perfectly balanced. Got my tostones and headed home. They were so good that my husband and I went back that Saturday night for dinner. Be sure to make a reservation. We didn’t have one, so we waited at the bar with splendid margaritas to keep us company. Not kidding – make a reservation. The place was packed, and rightly so. Every table was filled with happy people enjoying their food, each other and the music. We ordered the rellenos and eat them in a blink. We had the steak and the pernil and both were great. The atmosphere is just like being in DR. It was wonderful. Going back again soon.
