The brisket was delicious! I had the big blue which had blueberry jalepeno bbq sauce and I was very impressed! I was not however, impressed with the sides. The fries were nothing spectacular and the Mac& cheese wasn’t anything to write home about either. But the brisket on the other hand.. Was phenomenal!

Limp Lizard Stands on Its Own Merits…. It’s very hard to be a BBQ joint in Syracuse, because no matter what you do or how well you do it you’re going to be compared to the 800 Pound Dinosaur in the Room. I don’t know of any other type of restaurant where it doesn’t matter how good or how bad you are, you’re automatically compared to somebody else. For the record, the Limp Lizard is NOT my favorite BBQ place in Syracuse, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad dinner.Ambiance/Dcor – 7/10This Limp Lizard is located in what used to be a fast food restaurant, maybe a Wendy’s. It’s a small place, but they’ve supplemented their space by adding an enclosed patio on the side of the building. When you get out of your car often the first thing you smell is the smoke from the smoker out back. That automatically gets your dinner off to a good start. The restaurant itself is decorated in roadhouse kitsch. Knick-knacks and doo-dads from a steer skull to plastic geckos to biker memorabilia. It’s just fun sitting there and looking around. Unfortunately, like a lot of places that nail stuff all over the walls, the more you look the more dirt you see. We sat in the front portion, with the glass ceilings that curve down to walls. The ceiling portion was painted over when the Lizard took over, but the glass walls are so filthy it’s almost as if the paint has run. Seriously, it would kill them to wash some glass? Also, looking around at some of the kitsch you can see that it’s growing a fine crop of cobwebs. Service – 5/10When my mother, two teenage daughters, and I visited on a recent Tuesday the bar was busy but there were few diners. We were just between the happy hour rush and the dinner rush, and the place was full by the time we left. The bartender told us to seat ourselves, and our young waitress was very friendly and accommodating. When I was undecided about which beer to order she made suggestions based on my preferences and even brought over two small samples for me to try. No matter how busy it got, she was polite and happy the whole time. Unfortunately, she was also slow. Glacially slow at times. As I said, when we came in there were very few diners. It still took us over 40 minutes to get our dinners. We were left alone for long periods of time, and even after one of my daughters became ill (totally unrelated to the food) and had to go to the car we still couldn’t find our waitress to take our check. We ended up paying at the bar. She didn’t seem to be wasting time, talking to other customers, or busy with other work. She just disappeared for long periods of time. Drinks – 8/10The ladies of our party ordered waters and soft drinks, which were eventually served in large red plastic cups. They were refilled when needed. The beer list at the Lizard is very large, laminated, and found on every table. It’s very extensive, covering everything from draughts to bottles and from standard mass market American favorites to imports to micro-brews. The beer list was so good that I didn’t even look at the wine list. Beer fans, you won’t be disappointed.Food – 15/20The menu at the Lizard is filled with burgers, sandwiches, BBQ, Mexican, salads, fish, and steak. Most choices come with two sides. Our party had two orders of the Southwestern Chicken Wraps, an order of chicken tenders, and the BBQ Pork Cuban along with a variety of sides. The wraps were delicious, filled with shredded, spiced chicken that delivered a lot of flavor and just a bit of heat. You could taste the lettuce and tomato and ranch and it wasn’t overwhelmed by the cheese, a mistake that many lesser places make. The chicken tenders were above average, crispy and long and meaty. And the BBQ? Well, that’s what this is all about, isn’t it? The pulled pork may not have quite measured up to the more famous place downtown, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll be disappointed. And the Cuban sandwich itself was better than the one I recently had downtown. It was loaded with sliced ham, pickles, and just the right amount of cheese. Absolutely delicious. The stars of the sides we ordered were the roasted corn, sweet and zesty with bits of scallions, and the jalapeno cornbread, which had plenty of heat and a moist, smooth texture. The regular cornbread was just as good, with of course less heat. On the other hand, the mac & cheese was curiously bland, as if it hadn’t been made with sharp cheese. The black beans and rice had a good flavor, but were watery. We took one order of blueberry bread pudding home, and found it to have the perfect texture – crusty on the outside and creamy on the inside – with a sweet, caramel finish.Dinner for four, with drinks and one dessert, tax and tip, came to $57…a fantastic bargain. Total score of 35/50, or a C.You’ll like the Limp Lizard if you like easy parking, fun decor, good beer, comfort food, and you’re not too picky about service or cleanliness.Avoid it if you’re squeamish about upkeep, need speedy service, or simply have to have the absolute best BBQ. Because this place may not be the best, but it’s more than good enough.

Very Good. I was hesitant about trying this place after reading a couple reviews but was VERY glad I did. I stopped in for diner and sat at the bar. The bartender(I forgot her name) was great, friendly fast and quick. I ordered the combo of beef brisket and half a chicken with sweet potato fires and Mac&Cheese. The food came in good time and was very tasty. The brisket had really good flavor and didn’t need an extra sauce. The chicken was juicy and the sides were also very good. I travel 2 weeks a month and always look for BBQ places and this place was worth the trip!

At a Glance. The experience is simple enough. Seat yourself atmosphere with lots of TV’s strewn about with a bit more focus on the bar than the grill.Pros: Good options and variety in the menu despite being a somewhat limited genre of food; generous portions that easily make up two meals; and most of all, potently flavorful food and sides with a wonderful twist.Cons: It’s a bit tough to know what to expect, so one would do well to ask their server what’s good; our server only paid attention to our drinks when we made it obvious; depending on where you sit, you may have to talk above the ambient music. But aside from those little nitpicks, I truly savored this dining experience, and hope to be back again.

Yummy in N.Syracuse. 1 – 11 – 13Tonight I had the ribs, cole slaw , and baked beans. The ribs were tender and juicy, loaded with meat and not a bit dry or greasy. They also had just the right amount of sauce on them, not swimming in sauce the way some people do to cover up the taste. The cole slaw was really good, and had a unique taste of its own that complimented the ribs. The baked beans were AWESOME…whoever seasoned them knows exactly what they are doing, and I am going to have to go back when they open tomorrow and get a large container (quart if available) of them. This place ROCKS!! The food is better than Dinosaur BBQ and more user friendly! Plenty of parking, cheerful help, etc. I will be back as I see they also do great catering!!

Simply AWESOME!. Limp Lizard catered my parents’ 50th anniversary party and they were absolutely INCREDIBLE!! Can’t say enough about how delicious the food was — everyone raved! (pulled pork, bbq chicken, red skin potato salad — to DIE for!, tossed salad, and corn bread) From delivery, to serving, to clean up (they even bused the tables as a complete surprise!) they were SO much fun and paid attention to every detail. We will definitely spread the word — you won’t be sorry!

Great food and service. The original Limp is still the best as the two new spots seem to still be working out the kinks. The newbies have been somewhat inconsistent on the half a dozen times I’ve been to each of them (L’pool n N. Syr). Still, their menus all offer a great pulled pork or Carolina sand, authentic and tasty jambalaya, good tender ribs, great homemade sides, plus fresh and intriguing specials. I would suggest that they add to their side choices or offer side specials from time to time. Soup is homemade and filling. Desserts are good, but they need more options.
