The location is a nondescript spot in a strip mall a short bit south of the Latham Circle. Once inside, however, it was apparent that the space was nicely decorated and bright. We arrived early on that Friday evening and were seated promptly. We were a little self conscious being one of only three busy tables but as the evening wore on things picked up nicely. By the time we left at least a dozen or so tables were dining. As a first time visitor we kept it pretty tame – a couple soups and an order of rolls for apps, a curry and a stir-fry for entrees. The soups were excellent – we ordered both a Tom Yum and a Tom Kha – the latter was especially appealing – rich with coconut and spices. The order of summer rolls was good, but not exciting. Pretty typical of the fare. The entrees were more elevated – especially the Pineapple Curry. The server asked for my spice/heat tolerance and I assured them my palate could probably handle their version of hot. It was spicy for sure, but nowhere near the threshold level (although having lived in AZ for some time I have grown accustomed to a variety of chiles and their respective heat levels – jalapenos are like fruit to me.) The prices were reasonable and service was accomodating and prompt. Nice to have more corporate food alternatives in the area – hope they hang around a while. I’m sure that we’ll be repeat customers. Worth a visit for sure.
There are now two Thai restaurants in Latham. Sri Siam has only been open in Latham about 5 weeks at this point , but they have had an East Greenbush restaurant for over 4 years. I dined at that location shortly after it opened and found it to be good, but not anything that made me want to drive 20 miles to return there. Now, the Latham location is only a bit more than 7 miles away so it was worthy of its own visit. With them not having a beer or wine license yet I had a Thai Iced Tea ($3) and my wife ordered some hot tea ($2). As an appetizer we shared an order of Siam Crab Cake ($6) five shu mai looking dumplings with a sweet and sour sauce. I cant say I noticed any crab flavor, and the sauce was pretty standard. As is our practice on a first visit to a Thai restaurant, one of us has to order the Green Curry. My wife did so with Tofu ($14). The dish came with Jasmine rice (brown rice was available for an additional $1) and had good flavor with a mix of red pepper, bamboo shoots, string beans, and basil leaves. My wife was never asked how spicy she wanted the dish to be prepared so we think it therefore came out mild certainly by our standards. The sloped serving bowl allowed for an attractive presentation, but there was a minimal amount of green curry at the bottom of the bowl making it difficult to immerse the vegetables in the curry.I ordered the Pad Lardna with pork ($14), a very sizable portion of stir-fried, wide rice noodles with broccoli, baby corn, and carrots in a brown gravy sauce. The sauce was very flavorful, the pork was nice and tender. The noodles were not as wide as I expected, but thats OK. It was a nice dish, but it didnt wow me.Our server was very friendly and our food was served quickly. The menu is large with almost 80 items. There are numerous other Thai dishes that we enjoy and look forward to trying on a future visit.
