Disappointing. My friend and I hadn’t seen each other in 10 years. This seemed a perfect spot to meet, chat, catch up and watch the planes come onto Albany International’s runway. She ordered a green tea coming in a beautiful bone china cup and I my trusty Earl Grey. Her tea smelled like plastic to her. I sniffed and indeed it did. The waitperson kindly exchanged it for a chocolate something, which was very good. My Earl Grey was a bit strong but fine. We ordered half sandwiches and homemade cream of mushroom soup. My egg and green olive salad was chopped so fine it reminded me of the texture of Underwood Deviled Ham. My Country White bread was dry. The soup contained a roux that had not been cooked properly thereby leaving throughout the soup small balls of flour/fat mixture. And thyme…lots of thyme in the soup. It was too strong for me. My companion had the same kind of experience with her meal. The saving grace was the rice pudding…a very generous portion full of yummy raisins and dried cranberries. It might have been a great offering to ask if the diner might like it heated a little…maybe to room temp as it was quite cold when it arrived. The waitperson was very nice and the place is darling. May try it again but…not sure.

RUSTIC GEM. I started with the Jasmine Green Tea that was served in a lovely teapot kept warm by candlelight and poured into a gorgeous china cup. The honey brought for sweetening was perfection. My husband ordered The Historic Hills Omelette that had Ham, potato, scallions, and Gruyere cheese and I ordered the Spinach and Cheddar Frittata (photos uploaded) … both were totally worth the wait. The service was warm, attentive, and friendly … always keeping my husband’s coffee cup full. We will be back again and again.
