2016/11/30I asked our client for dining suggestions close to the hotel, and one of the ideas was Warehouse Grill & BBQ, which is a relatively new restaurant. The dining room felt spacious, with wooden dining booths and fairly high exposed, industrial ceilings. According to our server, the restaurant was owned by a couple whose last name is Ware (hence the restaurant name), who spent time exploring the many varieties of BBQ around the US, so that they could bring the flavors to upstate New York. They smoke their own meat on site using apple wood. They also have a variety of grill items, including steak and seafood. I ordered the Beef Brisket Platter, which came with a generous piece of very good cornbread and two sides. I chose Coleslaw and Sweet Potato Fries, both of which were very good. The brisket was tender and smokey, but their were a few pieces that were a bit too fatty for my liking. There were a couple of bottles of BBQ sauce on the table, so that you could add one the flavors you meal. Good food, good service.
The clean industrial lines of the Warehouse Grill & BBQ make for a nice first impression. They have only been open for five weeks, but the printed menu has already been slightly modified from what they announced on their Facebook page. That said, there is neither a printed nor chalkboard menu for the frequently changing 18 beers that they have on tap. This means that the servers are not likely able to recite what is currently available. Our server, Jackie, instead asked us what our preferences were and offered to bring us samples that might meet our desired taste. This seemed like a potential inconvenience for both her and us as our tastes can run the gamut depending on whats available. Solution? A quick trip to the bar to view the taps quickly narrowed things down, and after my wife sampled two varieties, she chose a third, a pint of Dark Horse Boffo Brown ($8). My selection was a pint of Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout ($7).We decided to share one of the Flatbreads as our appetizer. The Artisan ($9) with smoked Gouda cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions, fresh baby spinach, and drizzles of balsamic vinegar and EVOO came very quickly from the kitchen. It was very tasty with a sweetness that my wife surmised was from the caramelization. An excellent blend of flavors. For her entre, my wife decided on the Half-Rack of Saint Louis style Ribs ($16). They came with cornbread and she selected as her two sides, Warehouse fries and BBQ pork and beans. Let me start by saying this was one of the much better cornbreads that either of us has had. It was not dry, had a nice amount of flavor, and a crusty top that added both texture and flavor. The fries were slightly larger than the shoestring variety, had a very crispy outside with a soft fluffy inside, and surprisingly, still had that consistency once they became room temperature. The pork and beans were good with chunks of pork and not real sweet. Did I forget about the ribs? They were good sized, meaty and tender. My entre was Southern Hash ($14), which was not on their Facebook menu. It was a combination of both their pulled pork and brisket with potatoes, diced pepper, and chopped onion, topped with two fried eggs. It was a very substantial portion. The pulled pork was tender and the brisket had a little bark, but I would have enjoyed more of a smoke flavor. They did have a bottle of their own bbq sauce on the table which was neither sweet nor spicy but flavorful on the meat.Overall, a pleasant enough place that might be worth returning to try a different flatbread, or to check out their burgers or their pulled pork sandwiches. One of the negatives is how their deck area is fully open to the bar. This is an open invitation for flies to enter the indoor dining area.
