I cant believe so many years may have passed since we last had sushi from Yoshi. So many people have said the best sushi theyve had in the Capital region was at or from Yoshi. But we kept on trying new places over the years as each one opened. None of them that are still in business today ever became a regular for us. Some had better and fresher sushi than others, and some offered fancier and bigger maki (rolls) that were almost a meal in themselves. But I think we may now start returning to Yoshis to make it our regular sushi place. Its a warm and inviting, no frills type of place.First of all, the Miso Soup is just the way we like it. It is flavorful with just enough dashi, tofu, seaweed, and green onion. But most important is the freshness of all the fish used in the sushi. We had probably ten different fish on this visit and all of it was deliciously fresh. A real positive for my wife was the size of the maki pieces. She was able to easily place a whole piece of maki in her mouth without biting it and having all the remaining contents fall apart. The nigiri have an ample amount of fresh fish on each ball of rice allowing for two or three bites.Just looking at the pictures provided by reviewers should be enough to encourage you to visit. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of what is served. Interestingly, a comparison with a menu from seven years ago shows many prices have not changed. Service was friendly, fast and efficient. Large cups of hot tea were offered as soon as we sat down and refilled as needed. Yoshi Sushi does not have an alcohol license, but their web page says BYOB.
The sushi was ok. Good guantity of meat but not rolled well and not much flavor. I would go here again for a cheap clean protein meal but the quality left me shaking my head.
No Thanks.. So maybe I caught Mr. Yoshi on a bad day….I was craving some sushi, and decided to try Yoshi’s a couple of days ago.Granted my husband and I took our time figuring out what it was we wanted, but we handed him our order and sat around for a WHOLE HOUR waiting.I honestly didn’t mind until i looked up from that book that I was reading and saw him serving a family of four that came in a good 40min after we had been sitting there. So, I cannot comment on the food or quality of fish because I left, empty handed, hungry and in a pissy mood, vowing to NEVER go there again.
Sushi Sashimi Lover. I’ve eaten Sushi from Calif. to Cape Cod and have found Yoshi’s Sushi to be the best locally. I especially appreciated his freshly made sushi after I bought some sushi at the newly opened Fresh Market; Fresh Market’s sushi had MSG in it and came from the Carolinas! It doesn’t hurt my perception when I see Japanese patrons in Yoshi’s restaurant consistently.
The lunch bento box is a great bargain. Service is so-so.
Yoshi’s is a good, and friendly neighborhood sushi place. We have been going to Yoshi’s since it has opened. The fish is always fresh and well presented. Many of the other local sushi restaurant alternatives are not Japanese owned and operated. We have always found Yoshi to be personable and accomodating. The greatest testament to a good sushi restaurant is consistency and freshness of the fish; that has always been our experience at Yoshi’s.
Much better sushi to be had locally these days.
