Fabulous. As a young kid i would go to DeFazios with my grandmother for their traditional italian store – she said was the only place to go! I had the opportunity to take my daughter there for their pie and OMG was it awesome – service was great, no frills and can BYOB – highly recommend!
May 11, 2017 Its been over three years since Ive written about De Fazios Pizza, even though Ive brought it home on several occasions since then. But did you know that De Fazio A Imports, located next door to the pizzeria, is available after the Imports store closes, to be used for private parties? We had twelve people, although I think we were set up for sixteen. It was a BYOB vegetarian pizza party. We tried four different pizza doughs with various toppings. If my memory serves me, we had a Browns Brewing Brown Ale crust, an organic whole wheat dough, a spicy red pepper crust, and an organic multi-grain dough. All were excellent. I have to say if my memory serves me, because we were sharing a large variety of beers and ciders that everyone brought to share. My contributions were two Cellar Reserve beers from the Grand Teton Brewing company in Idaho a 2008 20th Anniversary Bitch Creek Double ESB Ale (7.5% abv) and a 2009 Reinheitagebot Malt Barley Sheep Eater Scotch Ale (7.5% abv). Both were bottle conditioned and went so well with all four pizzas. We actually started with De Fazios Greek Salad feta cheese, field greens, just a small amount of iceberg lettuce, red onions, red roasted peppers, olives, plum tomatoes, and oil & vinegar. It was delicious with garlic bread from Prinzos bakery. The different toppings we tried on our pizza were an Eggplant Florentine; a Puttanesca with artichokes, fresh mushrooms, calamati olives, capers & mozzarella; a mushroom and artichoke; and the fourth I dont recall its name other than it had sliced tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. We finished off with several different flavors of Gelato and mini cannoli, both of which are made on the premises. The cherries in the gelato are imported from Italy, and the vanilla gelato is topped with olive oil and sea salt. What a fantastic finish! December 18, 2013 Sorry it took us so long to try their pizza. My wife served as the delivery person for our first taste of pizza from DeFazio’s. She proposed to order it before she left work and pick it up in the slow snowy drive to our home. This meant the pizzas spent an hour in the car before we got to taste them. While they were still just a little warm, we quickly decided that they were still worth having again.Seeing on line the wide variety of specialty pizzas that they offered, we decided to try two in order to get a fair representation of the toppings. The first to jump out at us on their web page was the Goat Cheese Pizza ($13.95/17.95 – 12in./16in.). Imported goat cheese, red roasted peppers, red onions, olives, fresh tomato and mozzarella cheese. There were plenty of toppings on this pizza and the flavors blended wonderfully. The crust of the dough was thicker along one portion of the pizza than along the opposite edge. This made for the crust to be more dry where it was thick, but it had a nice wood-fired flavor and when eaten along with an appropriate beverage (read BEER) it was as enjoyable as dunking biscotti in your coffee. Our other pizza was a Sausage Peppers and Onions Pizza ($12.95/16.95 – 12in./16in.). With tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, DeFazio’s homemade Italian sausage, fresh green peppers, and onions, we asked them to substitute hot sausage for the normal sweet sausage. They crumble loose sausage meat on top instead of using slices. Personally, I think this is the better way to put sausage on a pizza as it distributes the flavors more evenly. While I would have enjoyed a bit more fennel in the sausage, there was just enough hotness to allow the flavors of all the other ingredients to come through. The crust had the same uneven thickness characteristic as the other pizza – more beer please!Bottom line is we’ll definitely have more pizzas from DeFazio’s. Maybe we’ll try having one at one of the pizzeria’s tables and bring along some good beer. Nothing like a wood-fired pizza right out of the oven.
The best pizza I have had in years! I will not buy pizza from anyplace other than DeFazio’s. thank you so much for a first rate pizza!
Best NYC style pizza in Troy; gluten free options. I LOVE DeFazio’s. Our fav is the 4 Seasons minus clams plus hot peppers (no extra charge). If you’re going to order delivery, it usually takes longer than you would like (because everyone wants it all the time) so it’s worth it to drive over if you’re hungry. The eat-in situation is weird with only a few tables. BYOB.They have a gluten free crust which adds $4 to any order. Though it’s a much different crust than the original (and not as fabo), this is still a yummy option for those of us that are GF.
Great. Although it was a bit smaller than expected, the service was phenomenal! Staff were polite, dilgent, quick and really funny. They will make anything you want from their woodfired pizza menu, are flexible and eager to please. Best part for all those penny pinchers out there, you can bring your own bottle of wine and have two glass and a opener waiting for you:) The family style run place will engage you and open the door for you on the way out!
Terrific and will take top vote for many pizza lovers
Best pie North of Elmont… (if you know where that is).. Get here, fast. Shocked the Albany area had such a gem, as far as pizza goes. Lovely staff makes it even better! Go hungry or kill yourself. The latter will get me served quicker! The airy crust is like nothing else. Enjoy folks! 🙂
