This used to be our favorite, but after one so-so and now two disappointing experiences, we won’t go back. Halcyon used to wow with great service and innovative cuisine – no longer. Did not want to believe friends who were anything but happy recently, but now I sadly have to agree. Food was okay, no wow effect, service sub par, not a mention of the farm to table concept nor specialties and if the waiter nor the front of house cares about our experience, why pay more for less!08 Feb, 2014Creative, yummy and excellent value. One of Charlotte’s finest restaurants. Been here at least 10 times and always happy with the food. Highlights are the skillet cornbread, chicken-fried quail, the fab burger, soups, trout, blue cheese ice cream, their bread, salads and also the daily specials and grazing menu offerings between lunch and dinner. Innovative cuisine and fun cocktails. Excellent wine list and reasonable cost. Service is usually outstanding. Nice terrace and fun interior design.
Lovely meal on the terrace. We ate lunch at Halcyon on the outside terrace before visiting the Mint Museum. The terrace is far above the traffic and provides a nice view of the city. I had the ribeye steak sandwich special. It was very tasty. My husband had the PoBoy special made with skate, which he also enjoyed. My mother had the Seafood Bouillon and she raved about it. I also had the chocolate mousse cake with blackberries. Good service, nice ambience outside and in. We will be back!
I had a lovely lunch before touring the Mint Museum. The restaurant provides a great view of the tall buildings downtown in a very trendy setting. When the chef’s bread selection of the day arrived it was popcorn with Turkish spices. Interesting. The waiter was very knowledgable & efficient. The lunch options were varied and offered interesting options but were obviously not priced for the ordinary, daily lunch. I loved the option on the dessert menu of a truffle which was served with 2 raspberries & a mint leaf. What a great idea for just a taste of something sweet.
Food was fantastic – Noah our waiter was excellent
Date night. #Eurofusion #Locavores. Located on the second floor of the mint museum, this restaurant’s tall windows and outdoor patio offer a lively view of the city. I took my boyfriend here after seeing it on the homepage and glancing over the menu. Anywhere you sit seems to offer a good view and the seats are super comfy. They offer three different types of water(for all you fancy pants out there). I work with wine, cheese, and beer for a living and I did want to order wine until I saw the prices. I recognized some of the names and they up charged some of the bottles 100% more expensive my store charges. I want to respect mixology, but I just can’t force myself into the scene so I didn’t try any of their cocktails. Food in my alcohol? No thanks. However…My food was AMAZING! It made me so happy! I ordered the Choucroute. My boyfriend ordered the soup and my boyfriend ordered the chevre ravioli. I was an exchange student in Auvergne, France and I think the chef is definitely familiar with that region’s cuisine. He got everything perfect. The duck was perfect! My boyfriend told me he didn’t like duck and he tried it and loved it. Plenty of meat and carbs served with cornichons, dijon, and pickled red onions. It brought me back to Auvergne. I was really surprised they even gave me a Laguiole to cut up my game sausage. I wish I had enough room to order dessert, but I ate all of my food. They don’t have their dessert menu online, but I’m curious to see what kind of sweets they had. I finished everything with a single shot of espresso instead. If I were to go back I would just order their different appetizers and split them with a friend.Definitely a great place for a date, girl’s night out, or a meeting. Don’t bring your kids. Dress up or you’ll feel out of place.
I have eaten here before and the food was great but I went in this evening with coworkers and we did not have a reservation. The restaurant was 1/2 empty and the hostess told us there was a 45 minute wait.
