Good Japanese. It’s nice to have a decent Japanese restaurant in Archdale. It’s not the best japanese in the world, but the prices are reasonable, the food is consistantly good, and I don’t have to drive to greensboro to get it.
I can tell no one who posted these past good reviews has ever eaten at a real Japanese restaurant, let alone a good one. Of course, not much is to be expected from a cramped hole-in-a-wall in the middle of nowhere but as such places go, even this one falls short. The service isn’t abnormally bad but standards are really low these days. Food and drink is served begrudgingly and there is no attempt at making sure customers have everything they need (dishware, sauces, etc.) Also, the seating area is very cramped and uncomfortable, though not much can be done about it given the size of the building. The garden out to the side we’re afforded a glance at from within the tight cubby of a dining area is no consolation. That’s as good as it gets for this place. The food is bad but it’s nothing usual for places like this. Don’t let the name fool you, as it did me, there is nothing Okinawan about the cuisine. You’re going to get the same flat flavor of listlessly grilled hibachi that you’d find anywhere. You can go anywhere, spin around, toss a rock, and you’ll hit some other ambiguously Asian restaurant with food just as good, maybe better. It almost doesn’t matter that they offer a myriad of combinations including filet mignon and scallops, because it all just tastes the same – bad. If you are starving or live somewhere in the woods around here, you’ll probably be delighted. Otherwise, pass this one by.
Gene – Customer. We really like Okinawa. Food is really good, especially the filet dish. Also, the service is excellent and the pretty Japanese lady who serves us even remembers us and what we all ate at previous visits. Amazing! i’ve heard others mention her memory as well. You won’t be unhappy that you visited Okinawa.
