Great Country Cooking Buffet At A Great Price. This locally owned restaurant has been here since 1987, offering a Southern cooking buffet for lunch (11AM to 3PM) as well as sit down ordering off the menu, and a regular steakhouse menu in the evenings, as well as a $10 evening buffet. Full lunch buffet, sans desserts, is $6.95 – that’s Chinese super buffet pricing! For very, very good Southern cooking! The lunch buffet offers 6 or so meat choices, usually including Fried Chicken, Roast Beef (some of it med rare or less), Baked Chicken, Baked Ham, Roast Turkey, Spaghetti, and more. There are 10 to 15 veggie choices, rolls, cornbread, and a fully loaded salad bar. Even a soup choice or two.The Fried Chicken is excellent, right up their with most in the triad. The Roast Beef is hand carved to request, and was cut with a fork tender. The ham and turkey were also very good. The veggies were all nice, well seasoned – the pintos, white beans, and steamed cabbage were especially nice. The Mash Potatoes were wicked good. They had Corn Fritters today, also nice, loaded with corn, well fried. Rolls were nice, cornbread a little dry. Mac & Cheese is a little on the weak side. The Salad Bar is very nice, as well – greens, ham, cheese, egg, pasta salad, chicken salad, and more. Variety of dressings, including excellent thousand Island and ranch. They bring a small picher of tea, or a drink plus a refill at the front end – no lost time here. Service was excellent. Did I mention that this was $6.95 for ALL YOU CAN EAT! Great Fried Chicken. Super Roast Beef.
Best food and best value!!. Have never had anything that was not awesome. We eat there at least three times a month. Best steaks ever and the chopped sirloin is such a bargain. Buffet competes with any in the surrounding area.6 of us ate there yesterday and 7 of us are eating there this evening…….Anyone who is not satisfied with pioneer wouldn’t be satisfied anywhere!!
We have eaten here a lot so today’s experience was hard to believe. We had a 70 year old eating with us and he ordered steak well done. When the food came it was so tough that he could not eat it. We complained to the waitress and she said it was suppose to be that way and charged him the difference for a hot bar. Most restaurants would have apologized and tried to make the customer happy.
Great Family Restruaunt. Tried their 12 ounce ribeye…What flavor! I have eaten alot of steaks over my 62 years..best steak I have EVER put in my mouth. Practically melted in my mouth. Came with the salad bar which is exceptional in itself..and a large baked potato or fries. Great service too.
Food dumped out of a can onto a buffet
Good local food
Good buffet. The Pioneer offers a huge selection of good country cooking. Be sure to get there early as lines can, and do, form. Outstanding variety and everything feels like it was prepared by a kitchen full of southern grandmothers. While they have menu items, the buffet is really the way to go… and it’s a tough value to beat.
