Great staple in the area!. Well the subject matter of best BBQ is so widely debated across the US that you will never get a definitive site as best for sure! But if you like eastern styled BBQ with the trimmings for a decent price without being hungry afterwards then HJ is the place. You can get the Q finely chopped or shredded as I see it; chunked; or sliced. The sauces are two basic ways on the table……..hot and vinegar based and sweet now! The hot will light you up a bit so use according to your ability to handle it! The slaw is the classic red slaw vinegar based. It may have the slightest hint of horseraddish but not overpowering if it does contain it…..just seems my palate may pick it up a tad. The hushpuppies are my favorite in the world, onion based batter! The fries are crinkle cut and tasty as well. The most favorite thing they have I like is only served on Fridays and as I write the review I plan on going today being Friday to get it…………the half BBQ chicken plate! It is phenomenal and heavily coated with a sweet BBQ sauce! They also have some of the best hot dogs and hamburgers/cheeseburgers around < I know that is crazy to believe at a BBQ place but they are great! The only thing I wish HJ would do is offer a combo for these items as well as their BBQ sandwiches to be a drink; fries; and sandwich deal for like $5.95 because you have to a-la-carte that and it gets expensive to do so! Free refills on drinks and the atmosphere is laid back for sure. Never a issue from eating here all my life and will continue to go until the good Lord takes me from this earth……….or they go out of business which lets hope not. Oh forgo to mention the ribs are great too. But I really go for the chicken and BBQ!
Lousy food. Everything i had was cold and if you have had cold fries they are bad.Would suggest if you want BBQ try some other place.
People with BAD attitudes need not be in public service.. Just want to let everyone know the people behind the counter really should learn how to treat custumers really bad attitudes. I thought huseshpuppys came as part of the plate not a side ,and again just don,t like my food thrown at me.BAD ATTITUDE.
WORST………….. I just wasted almost $9.00. This is the absolute worst barbecue I’ve ever eaten, or at least attempted to eat! The meat contained 90% FAT. The fries were cold and limp. The hushpuppies were tasteless and hard. Keep on driving past this place

Love it!. We love Henry James BBQ…the food is always terrific and their staff is friendly and helpful. We have family who live out of N.C. so for Christmas every year they get (and look forward to) Henry James BBQ!!!
Just OK. I don’t like this place as a BBQ restaurant because what true BBQ restaurant refuses to offer cole slaw ?!?! Sorry, but cole slaw is a southern tradition on BBQ sandwiches. This place is just lacking in that area. I prefer Jeds over Henry James simply for that reason!
