Wonderful restaurant with superb wait staff. They were accommodating for all of our whims and made exceptions to meet our needs. The food (and drinks) were superb. Try the house made fettuccine and the VanCott drink!!
Usually love to dine at Avenue M and have several times over the past 2 years . My dinner tonight was tasty but skimpy portion size; I felt like I ordered a small plate of MOROCCAN VEGETABLE TAGINE WITH ORANGE GLAZED TOFU and for $13.00 I expected more. The dish came loaded with potatoes , with only three small slices of mixed veggies. Really disappointed, came home and had a snack – I was still hungry 🙁
Super-friendly service, pleasant atmosphere, great burgers. Five of us had dinner at Avenue M on Merrimon Avenue tonight. One couple in the party had eaten there before, but for the rest of us it was the first time. Those of us new to Avenue M were pleasantly surprised and pleased by the very friendly service, modestly priced drinks and the great burgers. To start with the drinks, our martinis were just $7 (and if we had gone last night on half-price martini night it would have been an incredible deal). Most other drinks were also priced right, around $8 for cocktails. My craft beer was $3.75.My cheeseburger, with local beef sourced from the Chop Shop, was huge, perfectly cooked, served on a just-right Kaiser bun and a deal at only $10.75 with a large order of fairly good fries. Others in the group had scallops ($19), a Cobb salad ($14) and hangar steak ($19). The hangar steak, though, wasn’t anything special. If there’s a weakness, I’d say it’s the appetizers. We had the Rangoon Crab appetizer, which was good but not something I’d come back for. I’d suggest adding appetizers such as fried calamari and perhaps fried oysters. Also, I was disappointed that Avenue M doesn’t have espresso for after dinner. The noise level was a little high for easy conversation. That would be easily fixed with some sound baffles in the ceiling. As noted, service was very friendly, prompt and perky. We had no trouble parking at 6 pm on a Friday evening, but even with parking after 6 available in the Toy Box lot adjoining, I can see where at times parking could be tight.Bottom line: This seems to be a good neighborhood restaurant, with moderate prices (dinner for five with one shared appetizer, five entrees, seven cocktails, one beer and one wine came to around $153, plus my Usual Generous Tip.) I’ll definitely come back for the burgers and half-priced Thursday martinis.
We had a great meal & great service at Avenue M. They say they don’t get many tourists but I can’t understand why. They were every accommodating of special requests.
Ridiculous restrictive. We will likely not return to Ave M even though it is very close to a dear friend’s house which we visit frequently. The drinks were so hit or miss, the first martini was just poorly made, and was made by our waitress??? instead of the bartender???? When we ordered food my husband asked for no onions on his burger, he really hates onions, and was told he was not allowed to make any changes to any off the burgers otherwise he would have to build his own burger, which would double the price. What if he were allergic??!?! They would have charged twice as much? Not sure if that’s a cocky chef or a straight up rip off, but that was totally ridiculous. They were also pretty expensive, but the food quality was high. Just too much nonsense to be a return customer.
Terrific As Usual. I just read the three latest reviews from May 2013 and I have to conclude they were in a different restaurant. We ate at Avenue M twice in the last two weeks and it was all good — food tasty and ample, service friendly and efficient and the prices very reasonable. They have indoor and outdoor seating plus a bar. We also tried their brunch about a month ago and it was terrific. Last night the four of us had the Avenue M burger, the Moroccan tagine, a grilled chicken sandwich and a grilled chicken quesadilla. All of us cleaned our plates.
Mediocre Over All. Our party of 4 with evening reservations was seated promptly in a booth in the back as we requested. Wasn’t too crowded, so we could converse easily over our meals. Liked the Mediterranean Sampler: Felafel, Hummus and Baba Ghanoush with pita, (though Telma felafel mix from Bi-Lo is better). Nachos with cheese way too spicy and cheese was like melted Velveeta. Rest of the meal: blah. I took my dry lamb burger and greasy russet fries home, because I couldn’t choke them down, even with sips of Pinot Grigio between bites. The other couple had been there several times and said the food wasn’t as good this time. Maybe it would be a better spot for lunch? The waitress was very good: smiling and helpful.
