Bonfire is a little different, and we like that. One half is a bar with pool tables high tops and the heavier drinking crowd. The other half also has a bar, but lots of tables, booths and is more family friendly dining. Herself had the daily special, a fried green tomato burger and really liked it.Big juicy burger and crisp friedgreen tomato to provide some tang. Some sauted mushrooms and a white cheesefinished it off and the overall burgeradded up to something special. I had the smoked wings, and found them a little on the small side, not much meat. Fortunately, they weren’t dried out. Their sauce bar gives you lots of choices for flavoring your Q or wings and I tried and liked several. A word about their sides. They have some unique ones and expected ones, and each one we had was very good. The fried Brussels sprouts with a little mustard was the hit of my meal. The slaw was light on mayo with a nice touch of vinegar. Again, very good. We’d happily return to Bonfire.
We have just returned from Bonfire BBQ at West Asheville,NC.We ordered the Campfire Sampler plate that comes with 4 choices of side items. For the side items we ordered the following: 1-cup of Blackstrap Smoked Beans, 1-cup of JB’s Mack-Cheese, 1-cup of Fried Brussel Sprout, 1-cup of Triple Green. And for the Campfire Sampler plate and it came with: 3 slices of Brisket, 3 Kansas City style smoked BBQ ribs, Puled BBQ Pork, 3-Smokehouse Wings, and we ordered a cup of Pork Belly chowder soup to try. And now for the review..The Chowder Soup..lacks the broth as expected from a soup..and luke warm, all the side items came cold like it has been sitting on the counter..the plate sampler all came with good hickory flavor BUT, THEY ALL CAME COLD AGAIN LIKE IT HAS BEEN SITTING ON THE COUNTER FOR A WHILE..the server was quick to return with the meal when we placed our orders..so therefore the server was not letting the food just sat at the pick-up window..not quite sure if this is the style of BBQ that they intend to serve but for our first time to visit it will be our last..NOT VERY SATISFIED ..going back to Phil BBQ at Black Mountain..at least their BBQ are served hot..and got good ribs.
Pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. We had pulled pork plates and sides. The pulled pork was fatty and one plate had a sizable bone in it — unacceptable. The okra fries were very good — cut long and fried without breading. Cole slaw and three greens sides were good. It’s unlikely that we’ll return due to the poor quality of the pulled pork.
I stopped in and ordered the brisket to go. Holy cow… THE best brisket I’ve had in a long time. It was juicy and the top crusty bits were so good. I also loved the mac and cheese. I will be back!
We will try again…maybe. Taking a chance on a restaurant on their opening week can be risky. The atmosphere is great. The establishment had a great neighborhood turnout. Good BBQ on this side of town is lacking. We sat at the bar and had attentive service. However, the food left us underwhelmed. My husband had the sampler plate. Per the menu description, it was to come with ribs. However, these were not on the plate when presented. We did not notice the missing item until we had ended our meal. We did call the establishment to discuss the missing item and the server had been aware of it. He just forgot to mention it. Add this to a flat performance in the taste department of The Packer (brisket sandwich), bland collards, and fries that needed more seasoning. Unlike a previous reviewer, the sauces did nothing to help my brisket sandwich. It was pretty poor and greasy. We may return again, if we get our courage up.
Best BBQ in the area hands down. Moist flavorful pulled pork that needs no sauce is the test–and passed with flying colors. There is a nice selection of sauces– my favorite was the Bonfire. A little spicy no cumin and not too sweet. However they have several styles including mustard, eastern Carolina and one more similar to local style. There was also Asian style–and more. The greens had a nice garlicky flavor. Hand-cut fries were a tad over cooked but this is easily fixable. Staff was awesome and friendly. There are vegan and vegetarian options. They have unusual sandwich combos and a nice menu. Brisket is available. The atmosphere is good. All in all—thumbs up.
Disappointed. Still has a few kinks that need to be worked out. Nice set up and has a good atmosphere. Staff hard to identify- all in street clothes-should wear company t-shirt or something. There’s no kid menu so our kids had to split an adult portion which was mostly wasted. Menu items are priced pretty reasonable compared with the other BBQ joints around town. As far as the food… Baked beans had a good spicy flavor but were not fully cooked(hard & crunchy texture). The pulled pork was very tough and all the sauces were watered down. The most disappointing thing was they served a Texas style toast and not hush puppies or corn bread. Don’t see our family eating there again.
