The food was splendid, including the steak au poivre and the frites with aoli. Best fries I’ve ever had! The only complaint we had was that the restaurant became very loud, making it difficult for us to hear each other.

Lovely dinner. We had a larger party and they were more than accommodating. The atmosphere was inviting with dim lighting and a cozy-but-crowded feel. Bouchon aims to serve comfort French food and they hit the mark. I wasn’t overly impressed with their sweetbreads, but the Escargots Bourguignon was excellent and the French onion soup is the picture of rustic comfort food. Delicious! For my entree I had Steak Au Poivre and it might be the most tender steak I’ve ever had. The sauce was creamy with just the right amount of black pepper. After having a taste of the braised short ribs the had as a special I know what I’ll be getting next time. Absolutely worth stopping by.

Small restaurant and does not take reservations so be prepared to wait. However the bartenders are really nice and the drinks are delicious so time moves quickly. Authentic French food and a cozy atmosphere. The tables are a little close together but the noise level isn’t bad. The creme brle is not to be missed!

Great mussel broth, of course! Also had the rabbit+duck ‘casserole’ the potatoes were sliced so thin it tasted like pasta! Very good. Creamy yet light. A+

Underwhelming and Expensive. Last week we ate at Bouchon and were totally underwhelmed. We used to enjoy this restaurant quite a lot, but in the past years have been more and more disappointed. This past Friday was the last straw. Our $100 dinner for 2 (with only 1 glass of wine) could have been from Morrison’s Cafeteria. The ‘special’ grouper was extremely bland…the lines of sauce absolutely tasteless. The squash, zucchini and string bean vegetable side was just plain boring. The yellow rice….well, again, memories of a cafeteria. There were two positive things: the server was very good and the ambiance is great. But this $100 meal was really only worth about $40, MAX!! Avoid!

Very popular (ie busy) place in downtown Asheville. Mussels were great. We had both the bleu cheese and the Frisian sauces. An excellent Rhone wine matched the dish. The service was pleasant and the owner was on the prowl making sure everyone was happy. Would go back easily.
