Gardener Needed.. We’ve been on a bit of a losing streak lately. The last three places we’ve dined out at have left us wishing we had just given our money to a homeless person, instead of throwing it in the trash, or into the cash register of the establishment that served us. Jerusalem Garden is the latest letdown, though I will say that the atmosphere is inspired and a pleasure to behold. Our food unfortunately, couldnt muster up the same charm. I had the lamb sandwich. Incredibly enough, somehow, there was a decent amount of fat on the meat. Im not even sure how thats possible. Its cut from a leg of lamb, there shouldnt really be any fat. But there was and it ruined the sandwich. Also, the choice of ciabata as the bread for this, simply doesnt work. Otherwise the flavors were fine, though they definitely couldve loosened up the reins on the feta a bit. Overall, it was just OK. The real bummer was on the wifes side of the table. She had the vegetarian platter. The hummus was the dullest we’ve ever encountered. The baba ghannouj was another dud. Again, where were the flavors that we’ve come to know and love? There was no subtle smokiness, no nothing. But their falafel takes the cake. The texture of the batter reminded her of eating rice crispies; a weird airy disinegration before you hit the filling, which itself was alright, but it was hard to get past the oddity of the batter. The tabouli lacked the mint flavor it shouldve had. Etc. Etc. Our server had a strange passive aggressive act going on in between all the smiles and pleasantries but overall, did her job. We had been looking forward to eating here for a while so it was a pretty disappointing experience. Especially in light of the other duds we’ve run into this week. Asheville, you might have it going on when it comes to regional cuisine, but when it comes to food outside the red white and blue, you aint doin so hot. I really hope that the future will bring some changes that help eradicate that.Grade: D (the back dining room seems like it could be a good time, if you brought your own food..) drexlermcstyles.tumblr.com
Excellent kahfta and hummus. Great service and atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Nice surprise. We’ve been patronizing downtown restaurants for a doze years but just got around to trying Jerusalem. The atmosphere is quite pleasant with polished dark wood floors, pleasant and not-too-loud music, and distinctive tables and chairs. It was reasonable busy and the two waitresses were busy but came around regularly. Our only delay was in settling the bill. The falafel was great and the tabbouleh was authentic (lots of parsley instead of being mostly barley), the hummus was homemade and flavorful, and the tahini salad was fresh and tasty. We’ll return the next time we have a hankering for Middle Eastern food.
Absolutely Outstanding!. This place is so SO good. My husband and I were wandering around trying to decide where to have dinner when I happened to glance across the street and spot this place. We decided to give it a shot and we were both so glad we did! Extremely polite and fast service. We were given a choice of floor seating, table or couch, and the couch seating was super-comfy and offered a great view of the rest of the restaurant. Nice decor, musicians and belly dancer the night we were there as well. We started with an appetizer portion of kibbeh, which was served with harissa and tahini. Though the kibbeh itself wasn’t all that impressive, I was VERY impressed that they didn’t skimp on lamb or pine nuts at all and the whole plate only ran us $6. My husband ordered Black Angus Filet, which had a pomegranate fig sauce and was topped with butter poached lump crab, baby asparagus, and served with mashed potatoes. It was astoundingly good. He says it’s one of the best things he’s ever eaten- which I hope doesn’t mean I’m overstating the amazingness of my own meal which I ALSO feel was one of the best thing’s I’VE ever eaten! I had mango curry shrimp, which was made with colossal shrimp and served with couscous and grape leaves. I’m salivating even thinking about it. We can’t wait to return!
Bland boring food.. I ordered a falafel. It may have been the worst i have ever had in my life. It was cold and absolutely flavorless. Never going back to that place, although the environment is nice.
Service. Was the first time dining here, The food was so delicious. But the service needs some attention. I have to say it was a full house so I was a little understanding. But I would definitely come back again…
Excellent Mediterranean. This is a Great little place with an Authentic look, feel and fabulous Mediterranean flavors. There is so much to choose from on the menu, it’s difficult to narrow it down, but on a recent Sunday trip my friend and I shared a lovely plate of Baba Ghanoush with warm slices of Pita, Stuffed Grape Leaves and Lamb Shawarma. The presentation of each of these dishes was lovely-so colorful and fresh. The Baba Ghanoush was spread on the plate in a flower pattern. The Pita was freshly baked and warm. the Shawarma was rich and delicious, full of flavor!! We followed our meal with a bite of Baklava and a heavenly cup of Turkish Coffee. It was a meal to remember!
