I work down the street so I go there for lunch. I never get warm food when I pick up my order. Yesterday I placed an order and went directly over to get it. I had to wait for it, so I assumef it would be warm. It wasn’t. I told the the person helping me. He stated ‘its hard to keepthe food warm’. I said it just came from the kitchen it should be warm. Don’t get carry out from them. They don’t care!!!
Food came fast but it was cooked to perfection! Service was genuine and they even have fresh guacamole mixing demonstrations while you wait for your food. Salsa bar is filled with mild to spicy selections for every taste bud. I wish I lived in this town for this food. Thank you!
A Family Affair. The Papas & Beer family tree has sprouted a new branch in E. Asheville and we figured we’d drop by and pluck some fruit off of it. It has the archetypal P&B look, but with much more kitsch. The lunch menu was also similar to that of El Que Pasa and the other sister locations, though there were a few things that you dont find on the other ones. The California burrito was one of them and the roasted poblanos it promised were enough to ring my bell. Mi Esposa; the McStyles of local lore, tabbed one of their chicken tostadas for our maiden voyage. Of course we rounded things out with a couple of margaritas to play against the heat of the multiple salsas and warm bean dip we always chip our way through.Yeah, this one has all kinds of crazy, funky junk hangin from every angle, we kept pointing sh*t out like a couple of tourists at their first donkey show. It was a good way to pass the time between drags from our wide brimmed glasses. Then, hommie dropped off the goods. To make a long story short; it was up to par with the rest of their joints; large portions of delicious California style Mexican food. The only fault I had with the food was the salsa spilled over my burrito was super salty, so that kind of sucked, but everything inside that tortilla was moy bueno. The wife was echoing my sentiments all the way. The only other negative I take away from this experience is that it was super stuffy in there. The ventilation, or lack of, made things kind of grimy and toasty. Hopefully they can improve the airflow, as once the warm weather arrives its gonna get ugly. Im not sure what the story is with the Franks Burrito. They had one on a platter, under cellophane, by the front door. Like an talisman to keep evil spirits away. Its about the size of a two month old child, but much more lovable looking. I took a picture of the thing and sent it to that old so-and-so; Rooster Cackalack. He said that albatross might just be the straw that would break his backalack. I told him he just needed one of their 96oz (?!) margaritas to help wash it down. He told me that wasnt such a bad clucking idea.Anyhow, as I said, if you like Papas & Beer, you will enjoy Mamas & Beer, the service was fast and friendly and the grub was a whole lotta yum yum, nom nom.Grade: B+ (I mean is it even legal to serve a 96oz cocktail? Thats like the equivalent of 8 drinks, I think) drexlermcstyles.tumblr.com
