Always awesome. Killer takeout or dine in. Burritos any size. Local and quality organic and locally sources foods. Living wage certified. Best local burritos in AVL.
Rude staff and poor upkeep. The soda bar only had three options because the five other flavors were out of stock. The serving staff was rude when questioned about the menu and very snotty to customers. Unhelpful to say the least. The tables are always dirty and the salsa bar needs cleaning.
Favorite taco in A-ville!. I have eaten at Mammacitas for 7 years, many times a week or month, as do many locals. I find it to be the most delicious, most reasonably priced food in town and it’s fresh and healthy. Located right next to the Peel and Wicked Weed and across from the French Broad Food Co-op, it’s on the edge of downtown. Tuesdays are $2~ taco day, but I would rather just pay $3~ and beat the crowd. Awesome lunch!!! 12-1 is busiest, but they are quick.
$2 Taco Tuesday- need I say more??
Comida Rpida. Mamacitas reminded me a lot of Chipolte Mexican Grill (a hugely successful American chain that has over 1000 locations worldwide); a place we would hit up when we lived in the Pacific NW and were going to the movies and were short on time. Basically, there they have a Cafeteria-esque assembly line where you are asked to choose what kind of tortilla, meat, fillings, sauces, etc. you want and they slap it together right there in front of you as you shuffle towards the cashier. Like Chipolte, Mamacitas uses local produce and meat when possible. Unlike Chipolte, Mamacitas actually has the feel of a Mexican restaurant, with colorful decor and music that go hand in hand with what you are eating. We dropped by on a Friday afternoon, that being the day of the week when draft beers are all a buck. So a couple of Dos Equis’ were obviously in order. As far as the grub went, some char grilled steak burrito action was set in stone over on the Drexler side of things, while the Seora went the chicken route. Turns out the steak is grilled to order while all the other meats are scooped out of bins, so you carnivores take note on that. Anyhow, we found a table behind some screaming children and set in to see what was what. Size was certainly not an issue, as these suckers were massive. I probably couldve brought some of mine home but the obese American inside me wasnt having any of that. To give scope to a more normal reality, Mrs. McStyles was only able to finish about half of hers. She wasnt too excited about the chicken, reporting that it was a bit on the dried out side. Even with the high turnover that this place has, those metal bins tend to dry stuff out, and that turned out to be the case here. Even so, she still agreed that it was a pretty decent burrito. I felt the same way about mine; they got the job done. When all is said and done, Mamacitas is basically a high(er) quality fast food joint. Perfect if you work in the neighborhood and only have a 30 minute lunch break, or, want to grab a quick bite to eat before taking in a movie over at the Fine Arts theater. If we ever find ourselves in that latter category I could see us dropping in again. But if time was not an issue and we were yearning for some serious burritos, Im takin’ my crew over to El Que Pasa or Papas & Beer. Great local food. Generous portions. Fast service. Super friendly staff. Highly recommend. 5 stars.
Great atmosphere!. We’ve been several times. Being from Texas, we know our Mexican food. This isn’t what we’re used to, but it’s really tasty nonetheless. Friendly service, pretty dining room, and a nice little patio. Easy parking too, and that’s always a plus!
